Do any of you guys know anything about the B5 S4? I was looking into purchasing one, this one has high miles but is basically mint.

Well I wanted the functionality of a 4 door, plus I live where there is a lot of snow so quattro is a big help, especially right after a lot of snow, I go out and do some neighborhood rallying!

They can be fun, they can be fast, and they will be expensive to maintain (especially since they are all 10 years old).

I had a 2002 for many years. Fantastically fun car if you're willing to do the wrench time. There are a few major service problems to be aware of. That car is about $2,000 over-priced. Check out audizine.com/forum ... you'll find tons of info (and better priced cars in the classifieds).
You can get a Stage 3 (upgraded turbo's, etc...) for around that price.

I had a b5 s4 for many years with upgraded k04 turbos. Great power, love awd, but you will have issues with high milage ones. Make sure it has a full service history. Also just an FYI if the turbos go, the motor needs to be pulled to replace. It's still one of my favorite cars I have ever owned but prepare to sock away a couple hundred a month. Have to pay to play with the b5 s4's

If you want a reliable sleeper look at a Subaru Forester XT. Inexpensive to maintain and mod while being reliable.
Not sure what part of NY you're from but here's one for about $8k and it's a 5 speed: http://http://www.cars.com/go/search...5&aff=national WRX's are also great cars but the older ones tend to have been beaten on hard so be careful of those. I had one that was Cobb Stage 2 with all used parts for under $700. It was a very fun all around car including bad weather. |

The b5 s4 is the car that got me out of my "japanese car" phase i was in when i was younger. I remember getting a ride in a stage 3 s4 and the torque and acceleration nearly peeled the skin off my face! I've had 2 over the years, and believe it or not, they were both super reliable. Just maintain them well.

There's a reason you don't see old Audis on the road anymore.

I had one, it was my second car. One of the turbos failed and they had to lift the engine to replace it

I owned a silver one for 7 years. It was the best car I've ever owned(well not anymore ). I loved it, had it chipped and it was awesome. At 70K there was a vacuum valve that needed to be replaced and that was it. It cost a bout $300 bucks and the car was strong! Plus, with snows, that car was unstoppable in the winter!
Do your homework on maintenance and you'll have a great car! |
