Test Drove 328/335 convertibles! Not long, but I have some questions
So I finally got to test drive them both - love 'em.
Sitting in the car felt a little small - boardering cutesy. I guess I'm just used to the big openess of the dash on my X5. Another thing - I didn't feel THAT crazy of a difference between the 328 and the 335. Granted, when we were in the 335 the guy wouldn't let me floor it until we were going uphill... but to those that have driven both, is the difference worth 5 thousand dollars? Besides that, it handled great, the roof is a piece of art, iDrive was much easier than my mom's 7, sund system was excellent, comfortable seat, very quick shifting with steptronic... ahh I love it! Also, what exterior color in your guys's opinion would look best with Coral Red? Black? Silver? Grey? White? All opinions appreciated. and p.s. - when I asked about comfort loading, the guy had no idea what I was talking about, said that CA only operates the doors and keyless ignition (these dealers need to get on their shit! comfort loading is a huge selling point IMO)

IF you like power get the 335, if you want to look pretty (If you're getting a convertible it's a safe assumption) then I'd consider the 328, and save the $5k.
But, if you really like power then get the 335, once you're "allowed" to really romp on it you'll notice the difference, it's significant.

Comming from a big hefty car I need something light and open, hence the convertible. I guess I gotta go for another test, somewhere where they'll let me push the car. Any opinions on the color combos?

Just remember the E93 is about 400 lbs heavier than the E92. Folding hardtop is cool, bit beefy.
Colors? On the Cabrio, I would probably do Arctic Metallic with Gray Leather and the Dark Gray Poplar trim... That Would look awesome.

For E93, I think the exterior looks best when it is a dark color-because it hides the joint lines well. So with a coral interior I would say either one of the blacks, Spark G, then Space G, in that order. I actually really like Monace E93s but don't know how it would look with coral red... By the way, for E93 I would have gotten 328 because IMO the performance of a convertible is already too compromised and it would be all about the looks. |

335. In the e93 section, I think, adamr did ps's of ALL the color combos. Very nice job. Look around for it. BUT, they are all with top down. The lines do look loud in the lighter colors. Or keep the top down all the time. Then I would go AW/coral or TiAg/coral.

I ordered the 328. Primarily for financial reasons. I also drove both cars and there is a HUGE difference between the two, especially in the convertible. If you can afford the extra 5k I would go for the 335. The other issue is that if your going for a custom car and you do order a 335 it can take a while to get it, while you can still get an April production slot for the 328's.
Which ever you choose you will enjoy it. They are hot cars. |

There is more difference than just the engine for the $5K cost difference. When BMW puts in a more powerful engine they also beef up the suspension AND the brakes. A few other differences include higher cost for the Premium package to cover the leather seats that are standard in the 335 so if you want leather that package is an additional $1300 or so. More expensive wheels are also standard on the 335 as is the logic 7 surround vs standard radio. All in all the $5k difference seems worth it to me AND you get the power difference.

Anyway, I saw three E93s at my local dealer the other day. They had a 335i in Montego Blue/Cream Beige, a 328i in Platinum Bronze/Cream Beige, and a Deep Green/Cream Beige 328i. Now, I know you want the Coral Red, but I have to say the Deep Green car looked amazing. although Saddle or Black would look better on the interior. With Coral Red I think Monaco Blue or Sparkling Graphite look best. I agree with the other post that darker colors look better when the top is up. Also, if you haven't seen the Saddle interior in person you should try to before buying. If I were buying an E93 I'd get the Saddle with Barbera Red or Deep Green - but then I like the "out of mainstream" combinations. Happy shopping - whatever you get will be an awesome car.

I don't know, a powerful enough engine would make up for the extra weight. I don't think anyone would argue that the performance on the M3 convertible is all that compromised.

I'm planning on ordering a 335i E93 in July. TiAg with coral red leather. I'm not too sure yet on the wood trim with that color combo, although I know I dislike the aluminum trim. Comming from my 03' 325i, the 335i was faster within a split second touch. I'm used to heavily leaning into my 325i, but it was kind of scary how much faster (and jerkier, cause I wasn't expecting it) the 335i is. I also really like the "lemon" interior found in the pic/video section of this forum. The 2-tone piano trim looks great. I've sent BMWNA a few e-mails about it and they repeatedly tell me every time that only the leather options available and seen online on their "build your own" section are the ones they'll allow to be sold in the US market. I can't understand why I can't get my own combinations if I'm special ordering my car. The lady at BMWNA didn't seem to get my point. I'm sure I'll keep trying as it gets closer to July.

Lmao at the fact that he didn't let you stomp on it until you guys were going uphill, but I guess he jsut wanted to show you how much power it had even going uphill.

BMW only markets certain colors and interior combinations in select markets. You will not be able to get a special combination on a car as hot as the 335i. You don't order, someone else will. It's a business.

I know...
Coral red is available in the U.S. with White, Silver, Space Grey, Sparkling Graphite, Black and Black Saphire. I was simply asking what exterior out of those peoplet thought went best with the red interior.
