No difference in gearing. There isn't a second 'sport' tranny under your car waiting to be called upon after all. It is just a more aggressive full auto mode. Upshifts later, downshifts more readily and very, very seldom will go into 6th gear--pretty standard "SPORT" mode stuff really. FWIW, my car still likes to start off from a stop in 2nd gear in this mode for some reason. Not very sporty, that. The fastest way to go is manual mode.

it changes the throttle response too, makes it much more lively than regular D mode. If you floor the gas pedal from a stop in either mode, you won't feel much difference, WOT is WOT and both modes will shift at redline.
But general driving in DS is noticeably different than D. The car does feel a lot more lively in DS because of the throttle mapping, and it holds you in a lower gear, and is much quicker to downshift. Part-throttle acceleration will be quicker in DS because of all this, but the car is not quicker overall. |
