How safe is Google checkout as opposed to Paypal?

There's an item I want to buy but the seller only accepts Google checkout on his website. Does Google Checkout offer the same buyer protection services as Paypal? If I don't receive my order will I be able to open dispute and receive my refund? Anyone had any bad experience with Google checkout?

paypal is a scam, I have tried multiple times to use there "Consumer protection" and they always find a way to snake out of it.

from my experience as a seller, Google Checkout is better. All the buyer/seller protection from Paypal is all BS.

I never had problem with Paypal. I've read somewhere that Google Checkout doesn't offer any buyer protection services, that's why I got worried.

I wouldn't use Google checkout. A dude tried to sell me a phony M3 over google checkouts. There isn't any protection so he could have ripped me off and there was nothing I could have done.

Yup. You can always dispute the charge and Google will initiate a chargeback to the seller.

i've never had a problem with either of them. paypal is more common, but there's nothing wrong with either of them. any paypal dispute i've ever had to open has been resolved satisfactory to me, albeit a little bit of a pain in the ass. i funnel a ton of money thru paypal checkout every year and qualify for the paypal advantage status. last time i had a dispute, they refunded me within 24 hours without much hassle.

+1 to this, though over the past month or so, paypal has changed and become more of a pita.

That bitch is stupid. All she had to do is to call her credit card company to dispute the charge. The cc company will then withhold the fund to Google, Google will then issue a charge back to the seller. Transaction complete.

She was complaining to the wrong people. If you went to a restaurant and the waiter charged extra tips to your card, would you call you company that processed the card transaction? NO! You call the restaurant and if they don't fix it, you then call your card company. Dumb bitch.

Why does paypal always advertise their buyer protection policy? because they want you to pay with you bank account, instead of a credit card! Every time you buy something via paypal, the default payment method is ALWAYS your bank account (if you have one setup).

Google Checkout is just a credit card processing company, so you are protected as a buyer regardless!

Well CC don't always resolve disputes. I bought a bumper for my car about a year ago, the seller shipped it via Greyhound, I wasn't able to get it because I had to give them a tracking number or something. The seller never provided me with one. So they returned the bumper back to him. I opened a dispute with my CC and they couldn't do anything. I provided them with all the necessary paperwork proving that the bumper was returned back to the seller etc..Anyways they couldn't do anything and I lost $350.
