Engine cut out, wouldn't restart - error code P-3000

Yesterday had been driving for about 10mins and at 40MPH the engine cut out, i lost power steering etc, scary. It restarted straight away.
Haveing driven for another 20mins i got stuck in traffic and it stalled again and would not start, just kept turning over and over but engine would not fire. Called recovery who arrived 30mins later and it started first time?
He ran a dianostic check and it showed code P-3000 (CAN data bus, instrumentation - glow plug warning lamp).
At no time did any warning lamps come on, what do you guys think?
It's a 2006 E90 diesel.
Cheers
