Saw a special on the most dangerous runways and that was no. 2 or 1. Only showed a plane half a 757's size land though...pretty impressive.

Time to crank out flight sim and give it a shot lol

wow that's a hairy approach. reminds me of old kai tak approach. that kind of turn to final is scary looking!

i, too, have much love for the 757. it's always one of my favorites to take a ride on. lot of my airline pilot buddies say that's their favorite jet to fly as well, for it's range, power, and relative ruggedness.

i'll be taking a 9 hour ride on a 777 tomorrow. hopefully my god damn upgrade clears.

the triple 7 gets going too, with those massive GE90's..

but nothing tops the 757's RB211. the fan blades cracking at the speed of sound is awesome. delta 757's are pussies with PW's

oh man i love the sound of those GE90's spooling up. there's nothing like it. just massive power. for the same reason that i can't wait to ride on the 787. those massive trent 1000's are going to dominate.

i mean ive been flying planes for a few years, havent ever been in a windshear like this one. this plane must have been at 2000 feet and just started dropping. never been on a plane with people screaming, but i just dont enjoy it after that. don't get me wrong, i LOVE a good ride, but this was the never ending roller coaster that banked quit a bit at times, and slammed us around like cattle.

yea i've been on a few of those. i was on a usair flight a couple years ago into CLT. the flight from DFW-CLT was only about an hour because of some epic jet stream winds during the winter. we had to go around because of wind shear. that might have been the scariest landing i've ever gone through. we sunk like a rock and kept getting blown off at 45 degree angles. pilot pretty quickly hit TOGA.

scariest shit i've been through flying, i actually got trapped in a squall line of severe storms while IFR in a bonanza from OKC-FTW. we were flying a rodeo doctor home that night and had only weather briefs from the FSS, plus a shitty XM WX display on the garmin. we pretty much had to go either way, but we had thought the wx was going to be mostly clear on our route. if you've ever worked with that XM WX radar, you know it's pretty shitty when you're dodging CB's. updates terribly slow, like every 10 minutes if lucky. anyway, it's night, we're flying around 6,000 i think, and we're trying to figure out how we can avoid the bad stuff, but can't see it. at this point, because of the STAR we were given, we had to fly out over west texas. well they vectored us way out because of ATC delays in dallas because of the storms and we basically had to pick a point on our shitty radar to punch through the squall line. well, things got really ugly, really fast. we were thrown around like ragdolls, engine making all kinds of weird noises, gaining and losing altitude in big chunks due to the shear, and getting rolled up to 60 degrees, not to mention the hail and lightning visible nearly everywhere. we lost contact with ft. worth center for a good 20 minutes while this was going on. we were TX'ing every 30 seconds for a while, nor could we hear anything from any plane on freq. it was wild. i might have had a little brown stain by the end of that flight, but the pax said he had a blast.

yea you can pretty much guarantee it's not going to work if it's anything less than severe clear.

it was great because once we got out the other side of the line, it updated and our path was straight through a line of purple echos on NEXRAD. looks like that opening we picked was just starting to fire really nicely.
