Buy a Lemoned Vehicle?
What do you think of this deal? The price is great for what you are getting, but I don't know how a vehicle being lemoned affects it. Is the price fair? Is insurance higher? Registration / emissions any different?

If you like throwing your money away....then yes. Buy a lemon.

For that price you can find the same car that isn't a lemoned vehicle. They should really bring it down more and I believe you have room for negotiating because it's lemoned. I would say $29,500 because that kind of thing on a carfax will hurt you down the road when you decide to sell that car. So my suggestion is look around you'll find something very similar in that range. If you want that one NO MORE than 30 out the door (even that is a bit high).

"This vehicle was generously repurchased according to state manufacturer buyback laws, and the title will reflect as such, by BMW for an issue regarding fuel system concern."
Then again look into that too. If it's just somebody who gave up after a 2nd HPFP might be worth it. |

My thoughts are it is the HPFP so it is a common problem. My concern though is the resale value or it down the road. Even with the extended warranty on the fuel system and the new HPFP pn, is it worth the risk? Definitely will keep looking, but price wise I was wondering where this should fall at with it lemoned. Thanks for the responses.

Why would people who already own a BMW consider a lemon? Unless you're flipping cars, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense. It's like being married to a hot wife, but browsing on match.com to see if you can score with some girl with 2 kids and looking for some sugar daddy.

Why not just get an 07 or 08 w/ comparable miles for less? There's not much difference on the 09 aside from the idrive.

I bought my lemon from that same dealership. They're local to me. Mine was just the HPFP replacement 3 times in Cali so boom it's a lemon. Car hasn't given me one bit of grief in ~20k miles since last August except for widespread trans-pan leak. I only paid $20k for mine though, so that price is quite high for a branded title.
Oh, and an aside about the dealer: they deal a LOT of Cali buyback 335i. Myself and two other members have bought from them with no issues. However, they don't negotiate. It sounds stupid, but they don't. Their sales staff is salaried and not on commission so they really don't care if you buy or walk. Maybe they've changed policy. As a local, if you'd like I can take a look at it for you if you're seriously considering, but it'll be a few weeks until I'm back in town.

NFW, lemon can mean multiple problems not just one that is supposedly fixed.

Seriously, if I were you, I would not do it, even though it may not have any issue now, but it will always be at the back of your mind that this car was a lemon, and you are going to wonder if she is going to break down anytime soon. or when you decided to go on a road trip, will you feel safe that you are not going to stranded in the middle of no where? It is only matter to one person that knows it was a lemon, you! |

Resale is the only problem I see when buying lemon titled car. Unless car has had MANY issues and really is a lemon. So buying price should be low enough to compensate for loss in resale

Looked at Donnoho a few times and I think they are pretty upfront. They seem to do a big volumn.
Its far for me and I always think if you get there its good to have 2 or three choices or a return airfare. Not so big a deal if your payi8ng 30k or more! I do think the "Lemon" on the car fax seems to be a problem for resale. That car with 39k miles seems a bit steep on the price. Nice car though! THey are an interresting group, over the last two years they went from doing big Audi volumn to mercedes, and now BMW. |
