*** Official BimmerPost Photo Contest #39: Fill the Frame
Official BimmerPost Photo Contest #39: Fill the Frame
BACKGROUND: I want people to shoot something new and think about composing their shot within the frame, but I have a feeling that many will just crop an appropriate image they have and submit here. Either works, but the former gets props. THEME: Shoot and submit a photo where the subject completely fills the frame. This is kind of macro-like, but you definitely don't need a macro lens to do this. You want us to be able to clearly realize what the subject is (e.g. no super close-up abstract stuff). But, at the same time you do not want any background/foreground to show. Remember, composition and framing will be important! Of course you can creatively crop an image that has a background, but it's more fun if you're mindful before clicking away. Have fun with it! Good luck! IMPORTANT DATES: Entries must be submitted to this thread no later than Sunday, July 24th @ 11:59 PST. Voting begins the following day and ends on Friday, July 29th. RULES: 1. Any interpretation of the theme that falls within Bimmerpost.com rules is welcome. 2. You must be the person that took the photo. Previous photos are acceptable as long as you are the one that captured the image. 3. One submission per contest, and you cannot resubmit a photo that you've submitted before in a previous contest. 4. Images must be no larger than 800 px in any direction. Links to larger images are allowed but you must have one that is under 800 px for the poll. 5. All contestants must host their own pictures (which includes hosting them on Bimmerpost). 6. All images must have a title. 7. While post processing in Photoshop is allowed, adding or removing parts of the picture is not. In the event a photo is suspected to be "photo-chopped," the contestant will be asked to provide the original picture.

Edit: Please remove this image from the competition. I'm not deleting it from the thread, though, as it illustrates the discussion I'm having with Chewy734

nice shot Dave.
vachss, that's one evil looking creature! As a helpful hint, I see some of the background/foreground in the photo, so you might want to use a more agressive crop when framing this photo for this contest.

Hmmm.... OK, if there's to be no background at all then this becomes an even more interesting compositional exercise than I first thought. Many wildlife images take a tight crop well, but far fewer tolerate the complete elimination of background. Basically portraits of creatures with squarish, blocky faces seem to work best.
Here's my next attempt.... |

Does it have to be 100%, or can it be an extreme majority (I'll remove if necessary):

100%... otherwise it would be too easy, imo.
