What is dtc?

What exactly happens when I press the DTC button on my 330i? What are the benefits?

Dynamic Traction Control.
Normally it is like half on
Push once it is fully on. Harder to lose traction
Hold button for a few seconds and it is fully off....Allows for more aggressive driving

Sorry but you should at least get correct information our cars are equipped with dsc/dtc which help assist with traction/stability control. If you press the button once you turn off dsc which limits the amount the car will assist should you need it's help. Holding the button down will turn off both and honestly if you didn't know what the button did please refrain from turning the system completely off unless you are a track or such. And seriously you do have a manual.

Really? I didn't know that!
So say I'm racing someone (lol) would it be better to have it fully on or off?

Ohhhh ok..I've never driven with it off..but I'm just curious. I tried driving with the dsc off and it kinda felt different.

The DSC/DTC limits power by automatically applying the rear brakes so I drive with this off completely..plus I like to put down as much power as possible..as long as you know the limits of the car there should be no problem..

almost

normal mode is full DSC (traction and stability control) on.
DTC is a limited mode of DSC. traction control is off, stability control is reduced.
press and hold 5 seconds to turn everything completely off.

  • Let DSC do it's thing for regular commuting, don't turn off anything.
  • Activate DTC (press the DTC button) which backs off the stability function a bit allowing more wheels spin etc. for spirited driving while still jumping in at the last second if you start to lose control to help reel things in. *Use with caution*
  • Turn off DSC completely, press and hold the DTC button for at least 3 seconds. Dynamic Traction Control DTC and Dynamic Stability Control DSC are totally off. This is mostly if you want to track your car, if you're stuck in really bad snow or if you want to show off on the street with your rear wheel drive car that has loads of torque by wrapping it around a tree.

Most folks in the 03-04 mustang cobra world I come from would just turn traction control off 100% in their custom tunes. Some call it a safety feature. I call it a power robbing feature. I keep traction anything off 100% of the time. I'll be the judge of whether or not I need to brake.

I would fix it back - manual for my 328xi says on the pp87: push it once and DTC is now ON, push it long, and both will be OFF.

Normally the system is half ON, DSC is activated, DTC is not. that is why when you turn the DTC ON by a single push you can not engage cruise.
