2011 335xi sedan N54 or N55?

Hey guys,

First let me start by saying that I did try searching, a lot, because I didn't want to waste anyone's time. But, I could never find a consistent answer to my question. If its something that is easy to search for and I just failed at my queries, could you help with search terms? I'm just starting to get acquainted to all of the verbiage/acronyms/model#s.

I just ordered a 2011 335xi sedan on Tuesday (07/12/2011) and it is in production now. What I could never figure out is whether this will be coming with the new single turbo'd N55, or if it will have the same engine as the years before it, the twin turbo'd N54.

The only reason I care is so I can continue to research whether or not I could add a jb4 to this model engine. I continue to hear, read and see amazing things about the jb mods, but have just started down that road.

On the burger tuning site it lists the jb4 as only working on 2006-2010 335xi sedans, but includes 2011 for the 335is's.
http://www.burgertuning.com/jb4_pnp_...nce_tuner.html
Applications:
• 2006-2010 E90 Sedan 335i / 335xi
...
• 2011+ 335is

A friend of mine thinks it should still work on the 2011s, but I want to be 110% sure before plopping down the cash to order one and I figured this would be the place to ask.

Thanks for any and all help!

The 335IS models have the N54. All other 2011 and up 335s have the N55.

Thanks for the replies! So the 335is is a tuned n54 (twin turbo) where mine will be coming with the single turbo n55? I just want to make sure I get the engine models right in my head

Thanks for your help!

Congrats on your order. Someone explain to me the reason BMW went with a Twinscroll single turbo vs Twin Turbos? Cost? Reliability? MPG?

my understanding is a combination of MPG and emissions.

let see the 1M and 'is models have N54s and the other 35s have n55, correct me if im wrong, it seems like the N54 is a lot more capable as far as performance goes which is y they put it in those cars and took it out of the 3 series, but the n55 is better than the n54 in emissions and such

I heard on here that's it's also cost, for example someone said the n54 has 4 catalytic converters while the n55 has one?
