My mother felt it in New Canaan and people felt it up in Boston. My chick was walking in Greenwich (about 5 miles from where I sit) and felt nothing.

it also depends on the type of ground and building where the earthquake occurs. soft ground with a stiff building and hard ground with a flexible building will negate some forces but a hard ground with a hard building will be rough and soft ground with a flexible building will shake a lot more. also to clarify things for others because this confuses even the news people, the point where the earthquake starts is the focus or hypocenter which is beneath the surface, the epicenter is directly above the focus (on the surface). the worst effects are not always at the epicenter, they are where the worst ground and building conditions are (soft soil, liquefaction, bad foundations, buildings with poor lateral reinforcement).

I was taking a smoke in the 325xi.... I thought someone was trying to topple my car over while i was in it... i was going crazy for 20 seconds looking around all my mirrors and windows to see who was shaking my car... I jumped out of my car looked around, but no one was there... I get back in the car, thinking maybe the engine is going to erupt... then i finally see people running out of buildings and I know im safe lol.
I shit you not, I really thought someone was rocking my car... but that being said, it was a baby quake, it just lasted a good bit (queens). You know what pisses me off? all of the facebook status updates. wow they were all so gay, it was upsetting. I even saw a group made less than 10 minutes after the quake saying "i survived the earthquake of 8/23/11" how fucking gay come the fuck on... Maybe it was just me who got irritated by it the facebook status updates...

The Monday 4.6 earthquake in Colorado was followed by a 5.3 yesterday in the same area. Of course the 5.8 Virginia quake also occurred yesterday. Here's the interesting part, all these earthquakes were at 37 degree latitude so if there was a fault line spanning east to west along this latitude then I wouldn't think anything of it. Since there's not, it makes you wonder if the earth is going thru some other crazy changes.

And people live their lives on facebook. now the big thing is everybody is posting what they're drinking during this hurricane. nobody really cares, so why does everyone feel the need to share everything that 1) people either already know or 2) is too personal for other people to know, but due to the personal nature of it, nobody really cares.
