Question HOW can I go about getting a LSD?

UPDATE: INSTALLED SEE BELOW!

It seems all the mod sites **********s etc.. only show diffs for the 335i.

Performance Gearing has one for my car (06 330i RWD MT) but they don't answer the phone and has been 2 days since my email with no reply. they say expect up to 3 days for an email... how can you run a business like that!?

What are my options? I found a local shop that can open up my diff and install for ~$500-600 but I would prefer to get a built one that I can just swap in myself in place of the stock unit.

How have others gone about doing this?

no more one wheel peel

I have a 3.64 lsd from performance gearing that I bought used.

Best mod- works awesome, perfect ratio for the 330i IMHO. I'm sure if you searched my user name I reviewed it when I had it put in.

Well Perf Gear got back to me. Very friendly service.

Steal, do you find the 3.64 too aggressive for daily driving or just right? PG told me 3.64 is their most popular and it's the best bang/buck.

My concern is it is TWO shifts to get to 60mph...

OP, regardless of which ratio you decide, LSD is the best mod for any Bimmer. Good luck in finding the right one for you.

Yes, I calculate with the 15.5% gain in wheel torque, It'll be the *equivalent* (don't flame please) of about 300hp too!

Current torque with PE, BMW says is 204. So 204 lb-ft x 15.5% = 235 new torque @ 6700

So, (235 x 6700 RPM)/5252 = "300hp"

3.64 is just right. I drive 20k miles a year, and I still average 23-24 MPG 60% city driving. Definately not too much shifting in the city.

At 75 mph the engine turns 3000 rpm. To see what its like go 75 mph with the cruise set in 5th gear. It's not loud at all.

If 6th gear was taller, a 3.91 ratio would be cool...

Have you noticed much of a drop in gas mileage with the 3.64???

Like I said in the post above, I still get 23-24 mpg, which is what I got with the old rear end.

I've looked around for a LSD for my 06 330i as well.. ended up finding a great price on eBay for a Wavetrac. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/_W0QQ...KQ3aMEWAXQ3aIT I'm thinking about getting one if I can find the time to install it. I DIY everything I can and this would be no exception.

Hmm... $1300 for LSD + 300 for ring gear + 200 for diff rebuild kit + 600 labor ( idunno how to rebuild a diff) = $2400. Might as well just get a PG one for $2450 and DIY swap.

Why did you add that much to the 1300? Ring gear comes off on the '06 according to everything I've read.

I was saying if you wanted to use a different ratio ring gear. You're right you can just re-use the stock 3.15 gear since it's bolted, not welded.

Ahhh gotcha. I forgot you mentioned in the first post you were considering changing your gear ratio. Well let us know how it turns out when you get it installed!

Is the ring gear welded?
OS Giken doesn’t mention welding but AWD Motorsports does:
IMPORTANT NOTE: Due to BMW welding the ring gear to the differential …

335i after a certain production date is welded. 330i is bolted

omg SO after over a month wait, i finally got my lsd and they sent the wrong one!!! Ugh!

Excited after teh long wait, I pulled the old one out of my car and I compared them and I noticed they are different housings and covers! I have attached pictures showing them side by side. There is no way the one I received will fit. It must be for a different model BMW.

You can see the holes do not match up and there is an extra flange on the new one. The new one is also smaller overall.

The numbers on the side of my current one are: "7518 403-02" and "+GF+ 202 047-C"

The numbers on the one I got are: "7561802" and "2803"

I didn't install it and I didn't put my current one back in yet because I bought all new bolts/nuts/etc.. since BMW says not to re-use the angle-torqued bolts and I don't want to have to buy them again.

I sent Jim an email, hopefully he will make it right!

i don't see the difference... they look the same to me. You'll have to draw circles to show me what you're talking about... but, as for me not being an expert either; they look the same only one is obviously new
