Any lawyers/pre-law can help me write issue statement?
I have a memorandum due for a pre-law class, and I am kind of confused about writing the "issue statement". Our professor wants us to use the Under-Does-When format. What I am confused about is the "when" part. I am not sure which facts to list under this section.
The professor also gave us the statue to use: O.C.G.A 51-3-1 What I wrote is: "Under O.C.G.A. 51-3-1, can the Georgia Tech alumnus sue the Yellow Jacket Inn for negligence in providing ordinary care in keeping the premises and approaches safe when (1)...(2)..." I know you list the facts, but I am not sure which facts or how many to list. Do I list each criminal act separately or just state "there were other criminal acts in/on the property." I am guessing the only parts to put in that section would be the fact the alumnus got robbed/injured and the fact that there were other previous crimes, right? ANY HELP is appreciated. I apologize for the length of this post ---- The facts: "A group of Georgia Tech alumni stayed at the Yellow Jacket Inn the previous weekend. They were in town to attend the Georgia Tech-Vanderbilt football game on Saturday night, and they were disappointed to watch the Yellow Jackets lose, 42-7, to the visiting Commodores. After the game, they dejectedly walked back across campus and returned to their rooms at the Yellow Jacket Inn. As one of the alumni opened the door to his room and walked back in, he was surprised to see another man ransacking the room and stealing clothes out of his bags. The intruder then physically attacked him and left him with a bloody nose, black eye, and broken wrist and in the process stole his wallet before escaping. This break-in and attack was not the first incident to take place at the Yellow Jacket Inn since it opened in 2000, but it was the first time that a guest had been attacked in his room and the first time anything had ever been stolen from a guest room. On previous occasions, vandals had broken into three or four cars and stolen stereos and loose change. On one or two other occasions, guests had been mugged around the outskirts of the parking lot while walking out toward North Avenue, but no one had been injured. The owner thinks that a couple of these incidents occurred during Georgia Tech baseball games but never during a football game. On one other occasion, a thief had broken into an unoccupied storage room and stolen towels and shampoo. Now, the victimized Tech alumnus is threatening to sue the Yellow Jacket Inn for negligently failing to exercise ordinary care to keep the premises and points of access safe. The partner asks you to write an objective legal memorandum explaining whether the Yellow Jacket Inn is likely to be found liable in such a lawsuit and why"
