Check Engine Light from BMS PBX, help?
I got the PBX installed last night, a guy i met at the E90 Northwest meet last night did it. For a while i didn't get the CEL on my HUD, but when i gunned it on the highway ramp, it 'limped' and stalled at 4000rpm... i pulled over, turned the car off, restarted... the CEL is still there but not limping anymore... what do you think is the problem? or is this normal for a 1st day install?

Yea re check all the connections and make sure all the pins are in the correct positions. I did get a cel light the first time i installed it but it was like a day after and it went away after a few drive cycles.

okay, thanks, i'll try checking all the connections in a little bit and follow up on here...
Wouldn't the car have more significant problems if the wires were connected to the wrong place? I'm thinking sub-par connections... but like i said, i'll double-check... Last edited by N0OS3; 10-02-2011 at 02:58 PM.. |

I think i found the culprit! We used the wrong # when counting... i've highlighted the areas below. It seems there's a "1" in both the top left corner and the bottom right corner of the sub-connector so we got them confused.
As shown in Figure 1 (should NOT look like this): Due to poor lighting, the number in the bottom right in GREEN was used when counting the pins... also, the wire pulled to plug into the PBX female fitting was said to be "Yellow with White Stripe"... again, due to poor lighting, the wire was yellow, but we couldn't verify the white stripe. As shown in Figure 2 (SHOULD look like this): This is the correct position using the numbers i've highlighted in RED. lol simply explained as pure randomness... still having problems with the Check Engine Light though.... EDIT: Unplugged the negative part of the battery for about half an hour... still getting the same error as before... should i unplug the positive side too?
The car seems to be reacting to the Powerbox a lot better now though! No lag, no limping! Last edited by N0OS3; 10-02-2011 at 08:59 PM.. |
