Just been hunting around on google and apparently, the new Iphone 4s works perfectly with BMW bluetooth and IDrive. Even the new Seri voice recognition works properly. Apparently if you hold the iPhone menu button down for 2 seconds, Siri pops up on the iPhone screen and the BMW bluetooth mutes the stereo within a less than a second. It means you should be able to send handsfree text messages & emails and schedule reminders without taking your eyes off the road.
In addition, if you have your music stored on your Iphone, you can ask Seri to play any song just by asking for it

If they would offer the free wifi tether I get with my Xperia Arc I would move to the iPhone in a heartbeat, but I ain't paying £7.50 extra for it. Pity, would go well with every other "i" device in the house.

Went to the Apple store to try out the Siri, have to say..i'm not too impressed. Wonder if you could train the Siri to understand your voice or accent.

I am really impressed with Siri understanding me, however, seriously unimpressed that it comes back and says 'searching for xxxxxxxxx is only available in the USA.'
That is when you really need it imho 'find me a petrol station' Find me a car park' etc. etc.

You can go with Three mobile's one plan connection which comes with unlimited data and they allow tethering. Am using it for the past 7 months and every day using the phone as dongle, in the evenings to watch movies if am away from home, downloads and lots and lots...good speed in connection as well. No extra charge for tethering

Jailbreak it...Ive jailbroken all my iphones starting with the very first one and that allows you to tether off it (amongst many other things)

Siri does work with my BMW car kit (2011 Professional navigation), but :-

Half the time it complains of no data connection even when it has one. This is more of an Iphone / Siri issue

It is a pain having to unlock the Iphone for it to carry out virtually any action. A bit difficult whilst driving when you have a 6 digit passcode

I crashed the Car's bluetooth by asking Siri to read a text message and then asking Siri to call that person. Bluetooth crashed and the display showed "Dialling". I couldnt clear this and a reboot of the Iphone made no difference. Had to power the car off and on....

Siri voice recognition is excellent for me, just a shame it can't read emails at the moment.
