My Experience with 19" RFTs on my E92 335d

Hi all

Just wanted to share my experiences of ownership of my E92 which was bought from new in late 2007.

I drive 10,000 miles per annum in North London with mostly town driving. Current mileage 40k.

I have now just fitted the 4th set of alloys to my vehicle:
1st - 19" BMW MSport - 220M Style
http://www.alloywheelsdirect.net/bmw...220m_wheel_440

Warped and could not be balanced.

2nd - 19" Alloys via Northway Tires (part of Kwik Fit).
2 Cracked Rims in 6months.

3rd - 19" Alloys via Northway Tires
3 cracked rims in 8 months.

4th - 19" Alloys via Mark@ BMAutoSport.

I have always maintained my car and prior to the 4th set, which were installed today, have been running the RFT
front 225/35/19 Bridgestone
rear 255/30/19 Bridgestone

During my ownership and cracked rims i must have burned through in the order of 14-16 tyres. Truely fed up with a useless product which is totally unsuitable for UK roads i have moved to Non-Run Flats. For years i have been persuading myself that i was unlucky and probablity would dictate that it would not happen again!!

The general consensus out there is for the 19" wheels you need to move to Non RFTs othewise it is only a question of time till you have cracked rims.

with the new alloys i have moved to Hankook V12
front 265/30/19
rear 235/35/19

originally i wanted falken 452 but alas no stock in the UK for them via my distributer. Got a good deal for the v12 for a little more money but happy nevertheless.

short drive today grip feels better and a darn sight more comfortable. wish i did it earlier.

Currently running on 1 turbo as problems with the wastegate and actuator which i am hoping to get goodwill from BMW UK.

thats why i addressed the post 19" RFT. i am sure the 17" are great but not relevant to 19" alloys.

the tire depth is too small to absorb impacts hence why they crack - the sidewall transfers the impact to the alloy.

17" wheels are completely different as the depth is probably 3 times what i am running.

It was more a suggestion to change to 17 inch wheels.....

Esp since you say you like the comfort of your new tyres.

17 inch = no cracked wheels, more comfort, cheaper tyres and you can keep the RFTs because they are plenty compliant in this size.
