I think the thing is that if anything goes wrong it is usually going to be £££ ... and on the basis of how much BMW's mechanics cost + the parts I'd always opt for a warranty if it is affordable.
I have a 2010 330d ... which when the warranty runs out I will be extending for peace of mind |

Personally I'd pay £40.00,it's called a 'Peace of mind tax'.
£480.00 PA will be nothing if your turbo goes pop, or your DPF stops regenerating, either would be in excess of a grand!

i thought the dpf was a serviceable item so not covered under warranty?
if i let it lapse can i renew it a couple of months later..seems so according to bmw online warranty quote.. what stops anyone from developing a problem for example and then taking out the warranty, then making a claim say 2 months later? Last edited by shej; 10-19-2011 at 03:07 PM.. |

How about I put the frighteners on you. 9 months ownership in on a 2007 335d, and (after I pick the car up this afternoon) I'll have had a snip over £8000 worth of work done under warranty this year.
Hows that sound for your £40 a month? I seem to have been VERY unlucky, but no denying I'd have been royally screwed without the warranty. For me, a warranty is a total no brainer. |

I'm also with the extended warranty brigade on this one, I don't currently have it, a mix of an understanding dealer and (remarkably) helpful BMW saved me nearly £6,000 on a recent gearbox change.
If I had the option, I'd go with the warranty! |

I have bought a 2007 335i M-Sport and its AUC and I will certainly be looking to extend the warranty when its up for renewal.
I am with the other posters, in that it gives you peace of mind for the majority of things that could fail and would cost alot to repair. You only need one thing to fail really and it would of paid for itself at BMW prices.

As said it is a "peace of mind" insurance.
There is so much these days that costs an arm and a leg to fix, makes it a reasonable investment. While running the 540i I reckon each year the warranty work virtually covered the cost. One year was the 'big one' a new engine, due to a bore scoring. Even the past two years on the current car has virtually covered the cost, including a recovery for a broken front spring. I personally wouldn't run a modern car without an extended warranty. View it as part of the running costs. HighlandPete |

The BMW Insurance warranty is a good product, OK, if you don't need to claim it's dead money, like any insurance, but that is down to if you can afford the risk - and that is a personal choice. What I would say is it's BMW Warranty or nothing - at least you know that they pay out! |

I've extended mine too. Not claimed yet but I had a e46 330d and the gearbox went and i wished i'd kept the warranty up.
The only downside is you have to keep it serviced and maintained by BMW so of course you pay there premium. |

Top tip - don't bother paying for it monthly if you're not going to tick over 60k miles or sell the car in the next 12 months. If you pay annually, it works out at £546 (£0 excess inc emergency service), if you pay monthly, 12 months work out to be £600. Also, another top tip - minimise the premium you pay to have it serviced at BMW by getting quotes from Independents, buying your own oil, haggling and SHOPPING AROUND. If you do all of this you save money, get the same products and get peace of mind. |

YOu can drop the top level recovery package if you don't want onward travel and recovery etc. The standard package includes recovery to the nearest dealer.

Just remember people, you MUST call out BMW emergency services if your car breaks down (like, fully breaks down) and NOT the RAC/AA. IIRC, they will only honour warranty claims where BMW emergency assist has been used. |

http://www.bmw-warranty.co.uk I'd always go with BMW extended warranty - I did with my old 2006 330d. Then when I bought my new car I got some of the money back pro-rata'd. I paid for 12 months up front. |

The 330d should be the most bulletproof out of the whole 3 series range but then again yours could be the biggest dog on the forum.
You don't need the breakdown as they will still tow you. Mine has paid for itself after just 1 claim in 2 years. |

Maintaining warranty sounds like a good idea but years of dealer servicing could be financially painful in itself ? |
