Same reason a can of coke costs more in a pub than a supermarket.

I called up to get a quote on some oil and a filter for my 320d, they quoted me £120+ VAT :|

I stocked up some quantum platinum oil from TPS instead (genuine vw/audi stuff) which conforms to bmw ll04 and they had a sale on £15 + vat for 5 litres

The pub overcharged for the coke as there is service and running costs to cover. Even when you might have paid over the odds for crap food they still charge too much for additional parts of your stay.

You are not allowed to bring your own drink either.

Likewise garages take the piss with additional parts of a service

You can take your own oil to the dealer though.

That was what I was getting at. You can take your own oil to the dealer but not your own drink to the pub.

What's the takeaway price of oil at the dealer? They offer 1 litre top up bottles when I've been in and I don't remember it being too unreasonable.

this thread is dull.

OP just buy your own sodding oil and don't be a mug by getting the dealer to do it.

Just bought 10L of Fuchs TITAN GT1 PRO C-3 5W-30 5 Litres FULLY SYNTHETIC for £57 from Ebay. Its LL04 and much cheaper than anything offered by the dealers.
My 330d takes about 7L.

I just had Scothall Stirling Corner refuse to use self supplied oil (Castrol Edge 0W-30) for my service and wanted to charge £19 per litre for their own supply. That's Jardine Motors for you I suppose ....

Anyway, went off to Hexagon in the end without any probs.

This: largely for the same reason that I can surf, eat muffins whilst ogling the bang tidy service girls, and think about eating their muffins.

Natch, while you wait service FTW.
