RE: Exhaust mod

well i am confused now spoke to a powerflow dealer in bolton near me and he said due to the existing pipe being mild steel and a set of s/s tips the two different metals will not weld therefore my only option was a complete backbox £185 fitted inc VAT and my choice of pipes which doesnt sound too bad but is he right regarding the two types of steel?

You can weld S/S and mild steel (I had a similar thing in my old cars exhaust) but was only warned that it won't be as strong as welding say two S/S pieces.

Best bet is to ask another custom exhaust outfit (such as Longlife exhausts) as a second opinion before you go ahead with the Powerflow one.

Nonsense. You can weld disimilar metals.
Use Hastelloy or ER309 rods and tig it (or mig with same filler rod if you must)

Boiler tubes are made up of different grade steels - and if it works on a nuke plant it will be fine on a car.
I'm not a pro welder now , but was trained as a coppersmith / tube welder in the ship industry some 25 years ago so know a little bit.

So he's trying it on. tell him to fark off and go somewhere that doesn't want to rip you off mate

I had a twin tip welded to my original back box several months ago by my local powerflow dealer, he never mentioned this as an issue to me and to date I have not had problems with mine.

Sorry but thats rubbish, you can weld mild and stainless steel together, its not as simple as mild to mild or stainless to stainless but i regularly weld stainless to mild at work.
