Questions on MPG for new car

Hey guys,

I just got my 2011 335i M sport and I have a quick question on the gas milage. When driving it says about 12.3 MPG but when I was talking to the dealer they said it would be closer to 20 if not more and on the bmwusa website is says its like 24. I was wondering why it's like this or maybe is it because my car is brand new? Also I have the performance edition on that so would that affect it also?

Thanks!

Dont trust the onboard computer, fill up and do the calculations by hand.

the computer does an alltime average. Theres a needle for real time mpg, follow that. Overtime the computer should get a higher rate, that is if you dont do alot of city driving.

reset it, it's obviously including the time you spent idling. when you just idle, you're getting 0 mpg

This. I usually reset after each fill up so I know how much I'm using/mileage I'm getting per tank.
