I've used a Thule Atlantis 1600xt on my previous E90 sedan, and it works great. LOTS of room in there and it fit on the OEM racks just fine. Sharkfin is well below the base of the rack with the pod mounted. There was a slight bit of wind noise above ~70mph, but not very intrusive even on a 1500 mile road trip. I'm sure it would work just as well if not better on the E91...which I'll find out myself pretty soon!

Very nice! 1600 looks like a good size. 1800 is a tad bigger but I think would be okay for a 3 series sportwagon.... Now the question...where to get the best deal on a Thule!?? |

Quick question. Do you guys leave these things on all the time? Just wondering because of obvious decrease in aerodynamics and higher center of gravity.

Unless someone had a bad experience leaving it on all the time, I think its personal preference
Personally, since the box is light and is only 3-7 min to install, I would only keep it on when I needed it. |

As for Thule deals, ORS and REI is who I've ended up using previously. Graham

The decrease in aerodynamics led to a big reduction in fuel economy. SUCKS when gas is as expensive as it is. During the summer, just the racks with faring I got 23.7mpg. Winter, I am at 25.5. That's a big difference over the course of a 6mo period. |
