Getting up close and personal with the New M5

I didn’t think the 5 series could be any better looking, and then the Super Saloon arrived.
With 560 bhp under the hood, this car pulls exactly as we expect; like nothing else we’ve ever experienced at BMW. Power delivery is instant even without the magic M button selected. The car is quick, light but feels substantial all at once. As you would assume the car handles beautifully, but surprisingly the suspension is comfortable and everything feels incredibly luxurious and relaxed. Put your foot down and the exhaust releases a deep-mid tone groan audible inside the cabin and out, the car bursts into life reminding you that this is no typical luxury saloon.

Awesome, thanks for posting.

Is it a demo car or a lucky customer's?

I love it; looks stunning (and I don't normally like blue cars!!).

Can't help but chuckle at the 'efficient dynamics' light on the dash .

Looks great, nice colour BUT does it look all that special? Apart from the exhausts it hard to say its outstanding compared to rest of the 5 Series range. The new 5 isn't the best looker and guess they have tried hard to make this look special while also being understated at the same time.

Bet the drive is great though.

You can get the speed on the black-panel display and / or the HUD to display in km/h so that's deemed sufficient.

^^ yes, surround view. Works very well on the F10. Also has reversing camera and fish-eye cameras under the mirror housing.

Looks great, I think it would look better in black or grey!! I don't like the M/// badge on the brake calipers.

For some reason I thought it had more than 522HP.

Is this the first one that's arrived Anneka?!?

Looks great.
My only grumbles would be the wheels (not to my tastes, are there any alternatives?) and the brake calipers - they look almost aftermarket. I think the M badge should have been cast, so they sit raised from the body of the main casting. That looks like a base-model caliper with sticker on it.
Picky yes, but at, what, £80K? I think people will be picky at that level.
Interior looks like a great place to sit.
What are the seats like? Do they have active elements like the E60?

There are M Multi-Function seats available, at £875, so not sure if these are what you're referring to Si??

(I'm just building mine now )

...oh, and oscillating seat base function at £595.

.................oh, and front seat ventilation at £510.

.................................................I 've just racked up a £90k bill on mine .

They sound like the ones; they give the love-handles a squeeze whilst you're driving like a hooligan!

We're very lucky to have this car as a demo. We'll have four on site this month, two of them stock available for immediate delivery. We also have a gorgeous Citrine Black one in the showroom which is stunning, but I'm reluctant to photograph it as it is a customer's car.

Absolutely. I'm pretty sure we have some M track day tickets becoming available at some stage perhaps we can organise a prize draw.

It's the full black display, you can change the settings in iDrive.

Apologies, that should be 560bhp. In any case, it's a hell of a lot of horses.

I'm not sure it is the first, we've had this one for over a week now. I suspect most M certified dealers took delivery on the same day.

I love these wheels, simply because they show the brake discs off so well. I see what you mean about the brake calipers, but I wouldn't say that I dislike them. Overall I think they're fairly understated. It's very luxurious inside as the F10's are, but the M-Factor is undeniable.

The seats are very comfortable, our demo has the optional M seat upgrade (sports seats are standard). The M seats are multi-functional sports seats with driver memory and lumbar support. They look great. They don't have the dynamic width adjustment of the side bolsters function that was present on the E60 M5 Saloon though.

I don’t know if it was the very car but I saw an identical car to this on my way to work this morning (just off the A12 at the Blackwall tunnel approach, near Canary Wharf). The car looked good but no way had the ‘ I’ve just shot my bolt’ feeling like the E60 had.
