LEMON: Is it worth it??
Hey guys I've been a long time lurker but this is my frist post.
I've been wanting a 335i since they first came out and has been reading on this forums alot. Needing some advice about a LEMON car I believe Is this car worth it for what they're asking for? http://www.donohooauto.com/web/used/...ition_id=10426 I've searched the forum and the BUYBACK on it is probably a failing HPFP (just my guess) since that seems to be the most common issue. Thanks in advance |

This is a GREAT deal... The fuel pump on all 335i is a well known issue.
I have a 335i BUYBACK, it runs great, and it was a steal, I'm not in to 2 doors cars but that car looks great... also, has warranty till 100K, man go forward, get this deal! |

My gut says probably not a bad deal as long as the warranty checks out. I assume based on the listing it is completely fixed(quickly read through). Only issue that would keep me from buying it is the resale. Ittl be much harder to sell it again with more miles. You can almost expect to lose money throughout the life of the purchase for sure, and more so than when buying a normal used car.

This is a tough one. I would call a local BMW dealer and see if they can pull records on it. It may be more than just the HPFP. Seems like an ok price. You will get maintenance extended to 100k but I don't see where it says the BMW warranty is extended. Check into that first. The six years since in service date could be up as soon as next year, so check that as well.

I bought my 07 335 xi cpo for that price with all the bells and whitles and it wasn't a lemon. I think for that price you can get yourself something better.

Certified Pre Owned - it means you get the BMW extended warranty until 100k miles or 6 yrs from in service date. May also have extended maintenance (someone correct me?).

So the OP knows, this car does NOT have warranty to 6/100K. It just has the extended MAINTENANCE package to 6/100K. It has the standard warranty, if any, left on the car. I doubt it for an 07.
I'd pass and find a Certified Preowned car to get the warranty to 6/100K. The premium/sport/manual is nice, though. Also, correct me if I am wrong, but as a lemon car it isn't even eligible for CPO warranty, maybe no extended warranty options. |

It is a good price but like others said it's gonna be a tough sell later on down the road and you would almost definitely have to sell it personally because dealers most likely will not take it on trade... At a depreciated loss. Good luck either way OP. |

sorry to hear that.. i bought a similar '08 from those same guys... went to my local bmw dealership and gave them the VIN to pull up service records and the SA flat out told me the car shouldn't have been bought back as the issues were HPFP related. mine still has factory warranty although i need to look into an extended warranty soon.

I'm not new to the forum, but I am a new BMW owner; and I bought a similar car (though it was not a buyback) the last Saturday of November for the exact same price. I honestly would be split on such a decision. I honestly think that the stigma of buying used BMWs is a bit overstated. Yes, they're expensive to fix but that what are warranties are for.
I actually bought my 335i from a Toyota dealership (I'm guessing the previous owner had to give up the 335i for a Sienna minivan lol). The warranty issue was laid to rest by purchasing a 3rd party warranty through the dealership. Of course, I researched the warranty, and it basically covers everything but the most minor of repairs (bulb replacements, etc) and wear and tear items. I made sure that the company pays the dealer directly, and I don't have to pay anything out of pocket (except $50 deductible). The fact that the car is a buyback does concern me for the reasons elaborated above, but let's face it .. there are a few of us that will never be in a position to buy a new BMW or even semi-new. My purchase, though not a buyback, is a bit risky. But for the money, there's nothing else that can touch it performance wise. I also forgot the treatment part -- BMW of Seattle was such a pleasure to deal with. This is my first premium car I have ever owned, and even if I do encounter problems with my 335i, it will need to be a total lemon for me to regret the purchase. |
