E30 for the big 20
Just thought I wound post this is here because I was so pumped and also wanted a bit of advice.
Today I got a restored 89 E30 for my 20th birthday, pretty pumped about that. But now here is the best part. The E90 is now going to become a garage queen and is going to start getting modded since it will no longer be a DD. So my question is what mods do you think I should start doing? The car already has a BMW power box, intake, CF splitters trunk and roof spoiler, tinted and cat back exhaust... Just looking for some ideas of where I should go from here, what brands you guy recommend ect. Car is a 330i W/sports package and all the other goodies and its M/T Jet Black on Black Leather... Thinking about doing coils... 19's... what do you guys think? Last edited by my03e46; 12-08-2011 at 09:01 AM.. |

Save your money and wait until you can get a newer car.

I envy you in every way. I have no advice as, personally, I would have made the e30 my garage queen (which I am considering doing next summer pending available parking *******. Pix of the e30 please

The E90 is too old? I'm 20 and in pharmacy school with a 40k+ a year tuition so saving any substantial amount of money isn't the easiest thing to do, just looking to start putting a few mods into what I already have since I probably won't be buy any new cars until I'm out of pharmacy school.

Considering doing more modifications to that E90 really wouldn't be worth it IMO. With that kind of tuition, you should save your money until you're through with school.

I want to put a set of rims and a BMW PE on my 328 next summer and that'll probably somewhere around 3k. However, my tuition for Dental School is 60k+ per year. Priorities are school first, toys second. When I graduate I'll probably trade in the 328 for an M of some sort though. |

Apparently you're trolling...
There's no such thing as an E30 330i. Try again. As far as a nineteen year old already "owning" an E90, then "getting" a restored E30 - it must be tough living in VT these days. 14 million people unemployed and, in one of the poorest states in the union, you're driving not one - but two BMWs - and you want to know how to spend more $$$ on the cars? |

Yup. Luckily I have a lot saved up and my parents are helping out too so I should be able to graduate with minimal loans. School is the cheap part for me though. When I go to open up my own practise (I'm talking like 10 years down the road) I'll need 3-4, maybe even up to 5 million for everything. That is including buying/building the actual building though.

personally, I think you have it backwards. Your e90 should stay your daily driver, as it is much better equipped for that sort of thing, and the e30 should be the garage queen. A friend of mine just finished his e30 project, which has a swapped in a modified S52 motor from an E36 M3. He keeps it in the garage and drives his range rover most of the time.
clean e30s are very hard to find these days, and using a restored one as a daily driver doesn't make sense. You are better off selling it and getting a a beater e30 if you want to use it as a daily driver, and then using the left over money for a couple of things on your e90 and school tuition. |

my first car was e30 1986 325i and i loved that thing to death. it was a very high milege (150k ish) that had a lots of problem and i bought it for 800 bucks. had it for one year and it was SWEET to drive until way too much problems had me junk the car.
my advice: build your e30 and drive around the e90. e30 is such a classic rare car nowadays. |

i'm the kind of guy who can't own and use two similar things. my opinion would be to keep the e30 or the e90 and sell the other. if you keep the e30, do some nice upgrades to make it better on the road/better on the track. if you keep the e90, don't bother pouring any more money into it, it's not going to be a performance beast (neither is the e30), and it's not going to gain any value when upgraded (the e30 will, assuming it's done right).

However, out of curiosity, how are you 20 and in Pharmacy school? Do a swap into the E30, DD the E90.
