10% off too much to ask?

Most of the vehicles that seem to match my buying criteria or come close to it seem to come in around £25k, do you think expecting a dealer to shave 10% off a car of that value is overly optimistic?

Just managed to get a AUC negotiated to £13250 from £14850 which is over 10% so doable..

However, there are LOTs of factors involved with used cars, it depends on how much they brought the car in for, what work has been done to bring it up to retail standards e.g scuffs, tyres, servicing etc. Also depends on where the particular dealer is in comparison to target.

Best thing to do, is offer low to start and see what they come back with. If your not embarrassed when you make the first offer, it's not low enough

I think it depends how long it has been in stock, and how sellable the car is. A 335i/d (for example) without leather & idrive is always going to be difficult to shift, and will had emore room for negotiation that a similar car with the desireable options.

I would say 10% is realistic with most cars.

I was told by the dealer that they paid a lot for the vehicle (335d touring) and by the time its been prepped and given a warranty etc the deal isn't doable. I called their bluff and walked away thinking they would be in touch, but so far nothing. I have since seen a comparable vehicle which I actually like better but its in Kent and I am in Nottingham with very little time on my hands.

Sytner in Nottingham don't like doing deals. Another thing make sure you know the facts about the car your buying as the sales people at Nottingham know f@=k all.

Why go as far as Kent?
Have a look at Doncaster - there is an LCi car with very similar spec and mileage for the same money (or a few hundred difference, anyway). Looking at that, Sytner's pre-LCi car should be a lot less than posted price.
Walk away.

From past experience I have vowed never to go near Stratstone, besides which their policy is not to move at all on sticker price. The only vehicle I can see on their site is a pre-lci 335d but its silver with black leather (really not what I am after) but I appreciate your input.

That's fair enough - the one I saw was an LCi
There's an LCi SE at MK which is loaded and in Bluewater but has more miles on.

I can see your pain - it took me the best part of a year to find my current 335d Touring!! Luckily I wasn't in a rush

This is the position I am in right now Mike, I do wonder with I am being too fussy sometimes but I always end up comprimising when buying a car and this time I am determined not to let this happen. Tbh I have only been looking seriously for around 2 months but like you I am in no rush at all.

With your money in your pocket, you're in the driving seat. Do not pander to arrogant dealers and their attitude. Their call if they want to do some business or not. They are desperate for you, not the other way round. And there's always another car round the corner. Come January they will be a lot more pliable...

And... if you're looking at E90/1, come the new car, there will be more cars available and hit pricing yet again.

I would think 10% is realistic ,They always go ott with screen prices .walk away if they wont budge.

On another thought how does it compare with other auc cars price wise?
.If it the most expensive 335d E91 there must be room to move if its priced keenly less room everything is negotiable
