Chaps,

I've read through the forum and there's more than enough posts on warranty which is why I'm slightly confused, so please don't hate me for yet another warranty post. I hope some of you BMW guru's can help.

My questions is which warranty should I get for my car that would cover me as much as possible? (335D, 53k miles)

For £50 a month, I can get the full comprehensive extended cover from BMW:

However, what's the difference between this 'extended warranty' from BMW and the AUC warranty that I keep reading about? Can I get this AUC warranty?

Finally is it worth going to a third party, or is this a headache?

Do not touch warranty direct...lots of bad reviews...

You can't get the formal AUC warranty unless buying a used car from BMW but the extended warranty is basically the same. What they are not the same as is the original manufacturer warrnaty which is much more comprehensive.

As you know discussed here many times and answer almost always is to stick to the BMW warranty. You can reduce the price by taking a small excess or dropping the top level recovery option, even the basic warranty includes recovery to the nearest BMW dealer.

Go with the BMW approved warranty. Thats what I will do when the 3 month dealer warranty runs out. To be fair the quote from them for top cover was better than warrantywise and warranty direct anyway.

The problem with most third party warranties is you might as well put the money to lottery tickets as have more chace of winning.

I spent ages at the start of this month looking at my options, I can say with out doubt get the BMW warranty.
Make sure it doesn't expire or it will cost you more.

+1 for the BMW warranty as well.
Because of your mileage,which is about the same as mine,I would get the comprehensive with 0 excess.

I will be steering clear of third parties. I rarely hear good things about them.

I think I'm going to play it safe and go for the extended BMW warranty. Better to be safe than sorry.

To bring this thread back from the dead, can you get BMW warranty on a car that hasn't got FBMWSH? Currently looking at used cars and this is something i want to have for peace of mind.

As far as it sounds reasonable, might depend on the company you take out the policy with.

I had an offer for warrranty from a company that is affiliated with carloans4u, they have no idea what my service history is like but here's what they offered me which sounded too good to be true. Still researching what the catch is:

Yeah, seems far too good to be true unfortunately.

I think to be on the safe side it would have to be BMW for me. I see you can get driveline cover (engine, gearbox, drive, turbo etc). Still £600 on an 07 335i with 63k miles. Comprehensive cover on the same car was circa £1200. Cant justify that myself..

Have to say, i am a bit sceptical myself so i asked them to send me a copy of their T&C's so i can try and find the loophole. Wouldn't mind comparing it to BMW or warranty directs T&C's.

the loophole is, like with any insurance company they will try like bears not to pay out.. you'll be chasing them all over the place calling premium rate number after premium rate number, on hold for hours on end, then when you do get through, you will be told to pay up front and you will be "refunded"

the other thing to look at is warranty on any parts. BMW parts supplied and fitted by BMW means a 2 year warranty on parts. When goodwill is involved - you don't want 100% goodwill, you want 99% - as your 1% contribution means you still get the 2 year warranty, otherwise you get no warranty.

You're far more likely to get goodwill on something if you're taking out the official BMW warranty cover as this shows them you are keeping the car within the network.

I'm a strong believer that if you're prepared to get to know a dealer that you trust, you buy from their parts department (or use Cotswold etc), you pay for an approved BMW warranty and you generally behave decently with BMW - they will look after you. I say this based on 7 years of dealing with a local dealer across 7 different BMW models.

not directed at the OP in any way - but the culture that's out there of "it's £20 cheaper to use xyz" etc is a completely false economy imo and contrary to what gets written on the internet, actually BMW main dealers and BMW Service depts generally are a good lot to deal with.

stick with the BMW branded warranty imho
