Question Looking for advice

I'll try to keep this pretty short. I have an '07 335i which was a buyback. I bought it with 26 thousand miles, it now has 40 thousand. It has never given me any issues but obviously that doesn't mean much. The car has absolutely no warranty at this point in time. I absolutely love the car and would prefer not to part with it. It is also paid for. So what would you guys do?

Keep it with no warranty?

Invest in a warranty?

Get out while its still possible?

Thanks!

OPTIONS:

1.) If you like your 335I well enough and you are worried about warranty, a good option for you might be to trade your car in for a CPO 335I with a 100,000 mile warranty.

2.) Keep your car and mod the hell out of it.

Either way you'll win in my book!

@J3FF3RSPN: CPO is 6 years OR 100,000 (whichever comes first) so whatever year he gets is probably not going to get 100K before the years run out.

My advice is to look into a 3rd party warranty and see if you find one that meets your comfort factor. At this point it's only drive train issues that will cost you big bucks on repairs. And the fact that your car hasn't given you any problems, DOES matter. It shows it's basically sound and worth keeping.

keep the car and save up cash for repairs. and find a good mechanic outside of dealership. do you already have new turbos ? any wastegates issues ? < that came up when my 07 335i had 40k miles.

The turbos were replaced when it went into BMW for the re certification. So im guessing that was around the 20 thousand mile mark.

i think the answer is somewhat obvious. You love the car. It's given you no issues. It's paid off. You've stated you would rather not part with it. HPFP is warrantied by BMW until 2099 or something like that. Why even bother considering a replacement?

Why is everyone so worried about warranties?

How did we survive in the past when a car warranty ran out?

Mine is out of warranty. I have no problems. I pay as I go.

Keep it.

Driving a car that is reliable (yours has been), paid off (yours is), and you love (you do), is the magical combination. Keep the car and invest your cash in something else that will provide you with more of a return (education, your significant other, future).

I think the issue here is specific to German cars. Unlike domestic and asian cars parts are mostly imported and cost more $'s. Also there aren't as many German cars being sold in comparison and thus the dealer networks are smaller which results in less competition so service rates go up.

And in particular a car with turbos can have expensive turbo-related problems.

For me, I just self-fund my maintenance, but I have a feeling a fair number of folks with BMW's barely had enough money to afford one, let alone keep up with non-warranty repairs.

Dayumm, bro.

Sorry, but I beg to differ about dealer networks being smaller. Mere perception. Difference is luxury exclusivity vs. commodity.

I have had many German cars besides my e90, including the venerable 1967 VW bug, a 1978 VW Scirocco, 2003 Mercedes-Benz C230 Kompressor, and 2006 M-B E350 4Matic. Never had a prob getting them maintained, with or without warranty. BMW has a stateside factory in North Carolina, so there is no import issue, just the above statement regarding quality vs. quantity.

German cars are plentiful in the USA, as are the supporting infrastructure. Also, M-B and others have been using turbos for quite awhile, so turbos are nothing new to Germans...

Mercedes used to have the 50K/4YR free maintenance until they dropped the program in 2006. That is when I decided to move to BMW.
