I've got a sony w810i (the walkman phone w/ 2gb of mem) and a VK2020 (super tiny for going out), but might like to upgrade again to the iphone

I'd kind of doubt anyone will be able to purchase a group buy of these. Not to mention that might get messy.

I'd say go to your local Cingular/AT&T store and get on the sign up list. Better chance especially if you go to a non-populated shopping area.

Little bit of advice kids, don't buy an iPhone at launch. No 3G, no iChat at launch, missing a few other things as well (forget what else exactly). Wait at least a few months if you can't wait for 2nd gen.

I would have to agree. Especially about the 3g. But truthfully for the general public it is not needed. iChat if not available at launch can easily be included in an update so that is ot a reason to not get it first. One huge reason not to get it first is there will be a price cut shortly after, right before Christmas I would assume.

Eh, Although there is huge hype, how many people do you know can drop $500 for a cell phone? Also, forget the people you know how about the general public. This phone will be seen very rarely, it will not be seen everywhere like ipods. Shoot Apple only wants 1% of the cell phone market.

My friend at Cingular said he can't really get a discount himself. If he can, it won't be much.

As for a unique phone? Who cares if it is unique. Heck, if I wanted to be unique, I could've bought a Dodge Charger. 3 Series are hella common. $500 is nothing, people dropped that much for the brand new Razr when it was out. I must add, Motorola makes some crap phones also.

there's no such thing. The US has over 300 million people, chances are a bunch of them are gonna have the same thing(s) you have.

UNless you get one of those $25k phones that Sony makes, even then other rich folks might already own 2 or 3.
