F10 535i vs XJ supercharged
If one had an offer to swap a lease an XJ Supercharged, should one take it and get rid of 535i?
The 535i (dont have sports package) is nice but the steering is light. Also, XJ is 470 bhp vs 306 bhp for 535i. What do you guys think? |

I did a test drive and steering on XJ had better feedback in dynamic/sports mode and interior was nice. Question is the paperwork worth it?

I used to work with Jaguar several years ago. Unless Tata Motors have improved their quite crappy quality a lot I would never choose a Jag...
However the previous XJR had a really nice engine, I loved the sound and performance! Just my 2 cents. |

Having owned a 550xi for the past couple of months, I couldn't be happier. However I also had a Jaguar XJ on an extended 5 day test last summer. Personally, given the choice between an XJ supercharged or a 535i, I'd take the Jag as it's more fun to drive with a lot more power to offer compared to the 535i. The BMW exterior is better looking, but Jaguar certainly isn't ugly. For me, all wheel drive is a must have option which is why I bought the 550xi. Good luck.

I hope the XJ got plenty of warranty left. Jags and Range Rovers (same engine) spend more time at the dealership than your driveway. If you need more power in your 535i, consider chipping it (additional 55hp and 60lb of tq). You will miss the incredible BMW mpg.
Good luck. |

Love the interior of the jag, can't say anything nice about the exterior tho! Haha it has an abnormal and awkward rear shape...
Question tho, has anyone here had any problems since they were acquired by Tata? Not to hate but I can't get over this feeling of them cost cutting...

Jags have the worst reliability rating ever. Even today. I would never buy one because of that

I would take it. We have 2 family members with the new Jaguar XJ after I have pushed them into getting one due to improvement in reliability after acquisition by Tata. They are all very happy with the XJ and are impressed even after 1 year of ownership. I love it and would get one over the 5.

But those reliability datas are never accurate to be honest. Never. They rated many cars below average that turned out to be better than others. 1 of the 2011 XJ owned by our family friend has 30k miles on it. Has not been into the dealer once! So I am not surprised. The owner drive 35k miles/year for work. My father drives his 2006 Audi A8L 35k a year too and has over 165k miles right now. I take care of the car and get the warranty repairs done when needed but the A8 has never been in the shop for more than 1 week over a period of 6 years for any problems. Just simple servicing every 10k miles and replacement of brake pads 3 times (50k miles each set), transmission reprogrammed, and replacement of rear trunk hinge, MMI updates, light bulbs replacement, and now will be doing the control arm bushings as they are worn out. Cars are alot more reliable than 10 years ago so its does not matter as much.
Jaguar and Land Rover are much better off with Tata. They are building more models with more options, creativity, and better qualities over the predecessors. It takes time but it has been doing well. At the end the Jaguar XJ is drop dead gorgeous and will not be a bad alternative to the 5. |

But I don´t agree that J.D. Power´s ratings are incorrect...never...If you experience a reliable XJ 2011 you are probably lucky. Have you looked at the ratings for Lexus all models? Outstanding, no other brand comes close! And I am certainly not a fan of Japanese cars at all but the facts are there, they are of really better quality than all other competitors. |
