I saw this thing with 20k views last night. All the sudden it's now at 5 million. I'm excited to see how this plays out. Invisible children make its incredibly accessible to the public by simply setting the goal to make this guy famous. Great move by them.

This has been happening there ever since their own people sold their own as slaves.. WHATS NEW..? Im 23 and I have known about this for years. People across the world have been starving and slaughtered for pointless reasons. It just pisses me off that people are making this guy look like Mother Teresa. Its so hypocritical that now just because some film guy made a video about it, everyone cares and wants to give them money. Someone else will take Koneys spot after he is gone (its a lot more than one guy the amount of corruption is outrageous). After Dec 2012 this will fade away and people wont care anymore. The truth is not much will change.
This is a car forum anyway....

you may be right maybe nothing will change but this "guy" went and made this video for awareness pretty sure thats more than you and I have done and the time you took to complain doesn't help the situation either, coulda easily just reposted it for the sake of human sympathy for those suffering

^ Stoutnj89 should most likely be sent over to Uganda. What is wrong with him making a film to spread awareness and spread hope that this can end soon? Im sure you have lived such a sheltered life and cant even fathom what kind of horrors go on over there. Just because you have known about this for years doesn't mean others have as well and are just now choosing to show interest because a movie was made about it, for me and others it was an eye opener on what really happens in countries less privileged than our own.

Saw it, shared it and donated last night! It's been ALL over twitter today, P. Diddy, Chris Brown, Kim K and a BUNCH of other celebrities have been tweeting about it and getting their millions of followers to retweet it. It went viral as of last night! Anyway, for the childrens sake I hope they capture Kony asap!

WOW!
Another spoiled little-boy comment. Just keep your head buried deep in the comfortable, cozy, selfish sand. Good thing the bravest, most courageous generation didn't share your beliefs when Hitler was in power. Maybe at this point there's a big chasm between the Hitlers of the world and the Koneys of the world. So keep driving around in your shiny BMW oblivious, no ignorant, of the pure evil in the world, but remember 911. Maybe we should have just said, "Aww shucks, why go after Bin Laden, someone else will take his spot." To have the defeatest attitude of "Someone else will take Koney's spot..." is truly sad. I'm embarrassed for your selfish ass. Be grateful, deeply grateful, there are people in the world, in this nation who protect your ass. No one, not even BMW owners like you are immune to having all that we enjoy in this world taken away in a flash by people just like Koney. Okay, I'm done now. |

I'm a bit surprised youtube has allowed this to stay up.
IC is a shady organization and as much as the video is shared, I don't see it helping to bring a stop to violence in Africa. By donating, an alleged 30% goes to the 'chartiable' side of IC, which, as far as I can make out, doesn't make it much farther than the largely corrupt Ugandan gov't/military. The same military which backed rebels in the Rwandan civil war in the 1990s, which in turn contributed to genocide there. The current Ugandan president (who you'd be helping fund) has invaded neighboring Congo and played a solid part in the bloody mess around 2000 which resulted in the deaths of millions. The LRA, as nasty as they are, is supposedly much less active than when the footage for the video was taken, about 8-10 years ago. The majority of activity occurs outside of Uganda, in neighboring Sudan + Congo so having the Ugandan military deal with them doesn't seem like the best plan. Not that throwing money at Uganda would lead to them being dealt with. Next you have the fact that the Obama admin. has been pursuing the LRA for the past 2 years and is providing some form of military intel/advice/strategic support to the Ugandan military. There's a reason there are no American troops there, and IC allegedly lobbies for this to change (and this of course involves the money they collect). So if you take some time and do some research on something you may know little about, you'll learn that throwing money at the Ugandan military isn't an effective solution to destroying the LRA, and that buying the flags or whatever IC is selling won't lead to much money being sent anyway. I don't see much more than a slightly naive and pretty shady filmmaker capitalizing on the ignorance and emotions of an uneducated Facebook/Youtube crowd. Why someone high up at Youtube/FB doesn't share my view, I don't know. Maybe I've got something mixed up? |

wouldn't that kinda be like me saying " i donated to a cancer cherity in 2000 and its not cured yet so maybe i shouldn't do anything until the media tells me" just cuz its getting more hype now doesn't mean the cause became useless

that i even agree is very interesting and your right theres a very high chance that even less than 5% of the donations reach the actual children but i also believe that raising awareness does help the cause because until this i did not even know who joesph kony was So if you take some time and do some research on something you may know little about, you'll learn that throwing money at the Ugandan military isn't an effective solution to destroying the LRA, and that buying the flags or whatever IC is selling won't lead to much money being sent anyway.

^^ Yeah but step back and look at the bigger picture. I know you're in CAN, but plenty if not most voters here have little clue about the important domestic/foreign policy that's decided in a presidential election. They watch the debates and speeches (written by pro linguists who try to draw as much of an emotional reaction from listeners as possible) and let their emotions decide.
And the US policy on the LRA and African issues is something that can vary between candidates, but I'll bet nearly everyone who's watched the video won't be thinking about that when researching candidates. Nasty shit has been going on in Africa for decades. We're not in a position to do much about it. Unfortunately even the ICC (int'l criminal court meant to deal with these guys) isn't. |

Lol at people who blindly donate after watching one youtube video that got them teary-eyed. Do a little research and you'll see that, although Kony needs to be taken care of, Invisible Children is doing it wrong.

curious... "the bracelet and the action kit", does every single penny go towards supporting the capture of Kony?
