To all my cali friends

I am thinking of moving to california in the next couple of years. It is expensive over there, but the question I have is where is the best place.

I am 21
no kids
good job

I was thinking san diego? I like the beach... Or a harbor something with water..

Are you going to school or finding a job? That should be your first priority. SD, OC, LA, & SF all are nice to live in.

If you want water, it's going to be expensive. My son just bought a house about 5 miles from the beach. I think it's 4 bed/3 bath, about 35 years old, in an established neighborhood. He bought it at an estate sale, so saved some. 425K I think was the total. He and his wife both work two jobs to afford this. The market is "correcting" a bit, but still ridiculous. We're about 60 miles north of LA.

Solo business, or are you bringing employment opportunities? Taxation (with or without representation) is a major obsacle for businesses in Cali.

Actually an franchise, and whats this taxation thing? Yea i figured that but i was hoping maybe theres a catch somewhere. You know nice places people dont really know about! O well anyways is a house a good way to go or is a condo a good place to start? Esp since there are some NICE condos! Its kinda like soup plantation, but I think better. Its established on the east coast and I will see you guys in the west hopefully.

top 2 houses on the market in sf are above 50 million.

sea cliff (literally right on the waters) at 28 mil.

these are obviously the extremes, but still....a good picture of how ridiculous housing prices are here

How much are you looking to spend?
What size place would you like?
If it is over a few million, do you want to adopt me?

It's the most beautiful city in California, beaches, mountains. Not too big, not too small. A good distance from Los Angeles if you need some city life, about 90mins. Do a search on it.

If you don't want to pay too much SF is OUT! Home prices are outrageous and the cost of living is some of the most expensive in the country. Santa Barbara is VERY nice but it's right up there too. Besides its really small and it sounds like you want to start a new business. I'd look in San Diego or OC if I were you. You might also look in inland LA. Last but not least if you don't find anything in your price range start looking inland. if you get into Carona or Riverside you aren't too far from the beach and housing/ condo prices start getting very reasonable.

As for how do we afford it? Most of us in CA bought our houses a LONG time ago and could never afford to buy what we have now. I know if I were to sell my house and buy one EXACTLY like it my mortgage would go through the roof and my taxes would go up 6X's! A lot of people are adding onto an existing home rather than buy a new one. Or people are moving inland.

Another good reason to go to Corona/riverside is that you shouldn't have too much of a problem finding a place for your resturant and if its a fairly new community they are probably looking for somewhere to eat. Good demographics for a new place.

san diego is friggin stunning, perfect weather, lots to do downtown

my mom just retired to down there, I'm quite jealous

you're looking at 500K for a small condo though, although many places have taken big hits in value recently.

I want to live in san diego
