Adding an Intake and an Exhuast to E90 328i
Hey,
I'm wanting to add an intake and an exhaust to my E90 328i, for a nice subtle sound, not necessarily for performance. Can anyone educate me on how much it would roughly cost, and if there are any complications that I should watch out for? My warranty is expired so it won't make any of my warranty void. Cheers, R3D |

alternatively, you can get a muffler delete if cost is a factor. muffler deletes will run you $100-200. official muffler delete thread for non-335s http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=109344 |

I put the OEM performance exhaust on mine and really like it. The car was brand new when I did it so no idea if there was a performance improvement or not. It was $1400 or so installed.
I haven't done the intake yet because I'm not sure the performance gains are worth it. I am thinking of having it flashed by Turner Motorsports and adding the OEM performance intake. But the gains aren't cumulative so it would only take it up to 255 hp or so. I was quoted $1000 installed for the oem performance intake and the Turner flash is $399. Pretty expensive for limited hp and torque increases. The 335's I've had were infinitely more tuneable. I had a Dinan S2 and it was a monster. But I have to say I really like the engine in the 328 (with manual tranny). Its not fast but its quick.

As JBeene indicated, it's going to cost you anywhere from $2500-2800 to have both of these installed at a dealer. I think these are great modifications to make to the 328i. I was going to do both of them to mine before I traded it. You won't see huge horsepower or torque increases, but your engine will rev higher and sound a lot better with these performance modifications in place.
I think you'll be pleased with the results. |

Thanks for the replies. Since I'm mainly looking for a nice sound, rather than increasing performance, I think anything in the 1K range is too much. I may look into installing a muffler delete as posted ITT.

Muffler delete is loud and obnoxious IMO. I have an intake on mine to improve airflow and I've noticed a bit of a difference cruising on the highway with it (I get substantially better milage) I have the BMW Performance Intake which was a fairly straightforward one hour install DIY. I plan on doing the BMW Performance Exhaust next summer because I think it sounds the best out of anything out there. It gives the car kind of an E46 M3 sound, but from what I've read it doesn't drone at highway speeds. I plan on running that for another year and then the following summer doing some sort of tune (I have decided on what quite yet).

I have the OEM Performance exhaust and intake on my car. I installed both myself, the intake in particular is VERY easy to install, I cannot imagine paying anyone to do it. There is a very good DIY here to follow, with pictures. The exhaust is also easy, assuming you have a way of getting safely under the car. I have a lift, so no problem there. Got both from Tischer for ~$2K with shipping. Expensive, but the fit and function are superb. I don't have any idea if the car is any faster, but it sure SOUNDS faster!

The PE Intake from the same dealership is also on promotion, roughly $600? So you're looking at maybe spending $1800 tops on genuine BMW package of performance parts. Quote:
