Front window tint
Hey I'm in CA and have my back windows tinted as dark as possible (I think 15%) and I wanted to do my front windows are 30% or slightly lighter. I was talked out of it by the guy I got my windows tinted from and now about 4-5 months in I'm regretting not getting my fronts darker.
I want to go get my fronts retired darker, however I'm worried about cops and tint tickets as cops are pretty stringent around CA about front window tint (never had any personal experience with this, just what I've heard) So my question for all you is, what are the darkest front tints you are running or know someone who is and hasn't gotten into any trouble for it?

I believe i have 20% on the front and 5% on the back. I usually drive with my front windows down durning the day to avoid getting pulled over. I forgot to put them down a few weeks ago so i did get pulled over, now i have a fix it ticket

I did 20% all around. Works well for me with a white car with a black interior

I'm thinking around 30% on the front. I want to be pretty sure I'm not going to get pulled over as I'm not 21 and don't want to get caught on a night out with alcohol in the car.
(obviously NEVER drive under the influence, that's Just fucking stupid. But transporting I do give in too.) |

You will almost certainly get pulled over. The only really safe way to do it is to not have tint up front at all. If you're gonna do it 50% is the safe bet, otherwise expect to get pulled over.
Listen I was <21 before too and I did a lot of stupid shit and drank (not shitfaced but buzzed) and drove all the time, but never got caught. In California if you are <21, there is a zero tolerance policy. DUI BAC of 0.01% or higher, if the person is under age 21. Have 1 glass of wine with your parents at dinner, get pulled over for dark tint, get a DUI. It's not fair, but it's the law. Not worth it.

Now that I think about it, under 21 is illegal to drink, so guess that makes sense. |

EDIT: Nevermind, in CA it's just a ticket. In some states it's the functional equivalent of a DUI!

Yup, zero tolerance for underage BAC in CA. Any BAC > 0 = per se DUI.

Yes. If you take some NyQuil and get behind the wheel, if you are under 21, they can give you a DUI. Most likely this wouldn't happen, but if you have had anything to drink, you're basically fcuked.

35 up front is probably the lowest if you're not looking for trouble.
I have 35 and 18, pretty similar to your tint. Just be satisfied with it. I can't imagine you going through the trouble of peeling off your current tint, putting on darker tint, being pulled over and having to take your dark tint off. Not to mention you'd probably invest in going back to 30%. |

every car I've ever owned has had every window tinted. Not tinting a window is like turning on the AC, and leaving a door open.
Windshield gets 50-70%, all other glass gets 20%. I can still see, it blocks the light well, reflects heat, and isn't so dark I get hassled for it. I've been in vehicle aftermarket over 20 years, and have seen all kinds, so your particular shade will depend on why you want it done (cosmetic, security, comfort, combo?), and the quality of the tint, and tinter. Personally, I like the way it looks having the windows done. Ceramic tint will block ALL IR waves, thus blocking all heat, so the color of the film comes down to personal taste. Metalized films reflect about half the amount of heat as light (if you have a 20% film it reflects 80% of ambient light, so it will reflect about 40% of the IR) |

Get your passenger window darker then driver side,
or if you go dark both on windows, if you get pulled over turn on your DOME light or open your sunroof to let light in so it appears a lighter tint |

Depends on the city you're in. Some are stricter than others. I have 35% front and 20% rear. Havent been hassled yet. (knock on wood).
