I need some thoughts: parking it outside :(

The car: '07 E92 6MT 335i 25.5k miles with nearly every rare option available. (details in sig)

My condo has 1 parking space which I am handing to my fiance my car will need to park in an assigned open lot.

I hate to see my car get beat up from mother nature and door dings sitting outside. I really love my car but I'm feeling that I should sell my car and buy used Land Rover which I wouldn't care about as much and it will still be a nice utility vehicle.

Going on my motorcycle get's me going faster than my car so I've got the go fast itch covered.

Sell it, get a bike. Your possessions should not possess you, but it happens.
What makes an option "rare"? Is it hard to find and do you need to special order it and only during high tides when the rings of Saturn are covering Uranus? I thought those options are pretty easy to get...order it and its there.

Active Steering, Active Cruise Control, Rear Shade, etc. are rare because very few people have them...

for the thugs - buy an alarm

for the people who like to leave door dings - put a webcam in the window and keep an eye on it. free software with DVR features. if spots are assigned, wouldn't you know who dented your door anyway?

for the elements - get a good wax and buy a sunshade for the windshield.

my car lived outside everyday since 2007 except for 2 years recently where i had a garage. It is still a shiny sumbitch.

It's a 2007 3 series. Who cares if you park it outside? I park my $100k+ cars outside, they are cars.

So you want to sell your car because you don't want to see it get banged up? Well by the sound of it you really love your car and want to see it taken care of. Chances are the next person who gets in the car won't care about it as much as you. Unless you really need a utility vehicle I would hang on to her, grab a car cover or something and take the time to cover/uncover her whenever needed.

Why are you giving the garage space up again? I park my car outside, it's not a big deal. I'm not an ahole and take up two spots, but I park at the very end of the lot and leave as much space as possible between the door and the next parking spot. I've observed that people seem careful about leaving enough room, not sure if it's just my building or the way I park.

Next month i'm moving to a new place where I have to park on the street, not looking forward to it.

I was being facetious The options (and its, perceived rarity) has nothing to do with the dents and mother nature's effect on the car as it sits outside in a designated parking spot. You could rationalize (re-sale value, temptation for would be thieves, etc.) that it has a bearing on the situation, of course. In the end, it really is just padding on the résumé.

^This. Dents are inevitable, and hand wringing over this is counter-productive.

Move into a house or condo with a garage! Just kidding. Man, as much as we all love out cars, I understand how you feel. But just driving it on the freeway will probably warrant more dings/scratches/chips than letting it sit in a parking lot. Have you experienced any damage yet? If you think you get a lot by letting it sit there, then you may be correct by wanting to sell it. But if you don't, you may as well keep it and just claybar, wash, and wax often. You have the same odds of getting damage parking it in normal parking lots, I would imagine. Unless you absolutely never go out.

My 335 is outside all the time now, cuz of my new apartment, ones with attached garages wasn't available. Im not to worried about it. I just grab a corner spot a little bit away by another nice car.

I'm more worried about a-holes in shopping centers than I am my complex. But you cant do anything about it.

Get the car professionally detailed every 6 months- year. Use door shox to keep people from denting your car. Other than that, don't sweat it...

^^ woahhh those are actually the worst spots you can have in New York... the amount of swiped and smashed cars I have seen sitting on corners is crazy, and its almost always a hit and run if the ahole drivers car will still move.

sell the car OP? that's a little drastic, as someone said.. its a 2007 3 series
