You guys that do your own repairs. What manuals are you using?

In the past on other cars (Chevy's and Fords) I've just used Haynes Manuals.

A friend of mine that is a technician recommended the site alldatadiy.com but they don't carry BMW.

Suggestions? I have an 08 335i

The Bentley Manual should be the first purchase you make after buying your car. I picked one up on Amazon for around $85. Well worth the money.

I don't think they even make a Haynes/Chilton manual for these cars (and if they did I wouldn't buy it).

Agreed. Bentley manuals are the definitive maintenance manuals for our cars.

This doesn't cover the 2011 E90 N55 engine since it's cutoff is 2010. Did you still buy for yourself?

Haynes is OK, I have the one for the 328i. Last time I checked, they hadn't come out with one for the 335 yet. Bentley is just a little better. If I had a 2008 335i, and I didn't already have the Bentley manual, I would get a Bavarian Technic instead and maybe the 12/2007 edition of the BMW TIS dvd. Three times what it would cost for the Bently manual alone, but way more comprehensive coverage.

I've owned Haynes on other cars before. Some things they explain well and others you'd think they were skipping steps or they were being vague. I bought them because I couldn't find anything better.

This time around I've ordered the Bentley manual. Amazon seems to have the best price. It's coming on Monday!!

No, unfortunately. I am impatiently awaiting their release of a manual for my car. Until then, I've just used the stuff I've found on this forum's DIY section.

I'm currently thinking about purchasing the Bentley manual for an 07 335i that I might need to do some repairs such as oil filter gasket replacing, and radiator replacing, i've read online that the Bentley manual is missing certain things, namely the removal and installing process for the oil filter housing. has any owners of the manual noticed any such items missing in their manual? or do you all feel it's a complete and comprehensive manual?

The oil filter housing is covered very well in the DIY section of this Forum. I have the Bentley and I have a lot of the BMW TIS. The Bentley is pretty good and the TIS is pretty good. The Bentley leaves things out. The Bentley for my Z3 is terrible. But when you buy a Bentley, you get a book serial code that allows you to go on Bentley's website and get free updates.

This seems a good buy, I've read in forums before but didnt bother to buy till the warranty expired :-). For any maintenance work, I try to make a deal with the BMW first, I know it sounds weird, but I do get a good price comparable to local shops with good reputation and at times BMW dealership is cheaper.

Since you already own one, I would really appreciate you can check if it also lists good details on hardtop convertible roof repair or maintenance. If I can fix some minor rattling myself (why may occur in some time), this will be a good buy.

By far Bentley's are the premier manual to have, but I never do large DIY jobs as I don't have the equipment or the time to invest in my auto, I only do small jobs. That said I use the Hayne's as it serves for what I need. If could find a Bentley on the cheap though, I'd probably buy it.
