Insurance has many many variables that factor into the price. It's not like going to the store to buy soda, where you can compare the price from one store to the next. If someone says this is my car and here's what I pay, that's skipping over the level of coverages, where you live, your driving history, age, ability to bundle with homeowners coverage and deductibles.

Apart from visible discounts, last week I learned few things about my insurance premium.
1. By taking an online defensive driving course($20-$45 cost) in NJ, I can save 5% on my 6 month premium for 3 years.
2. If you have a good health insurance(with lower deductible), you can opt for higher auto medical insurance deductible. This brings down premium.

This year my premium got higher because of regular BS insurance hikes.
I managed to bring my premium to $584 (6 months). Im 30+ yrs.
$500 collision deduct
$0 Comprehensive.

1.)Take advantage of discounts where you can get them. Nicely done!

2.) Not sure how you can save much in this regard, MedPay already has a pretty small limit and will pale in comparison to your Bodily Injury premium. All other medical payments are third party (aside from PIP, which is only widely used in a handful of states), and your health insurance will have no impact.

3.) Most premiums will take a hike this year because repair shops are charging more than they have in prior years. I wouldn't exactly call it BS insurance hikes, more like BS repair hikes.

That's one helluva a plan you have there...

A collision policy with no deductible would cost quite a heavy penny. I would double-check the fine print.

These threads are of little to no value, there are WAAAY too many variables that determine an individual premium, and each company has a slightly different formula.

I also pay about $100/month. But that's for 4 cars I use an independent insurance agent who regularly shops it for me so my premiums tend to go down every couple years.

Agreed that there are too many factors to consider, so none of these rates are applicable to anyone but the insured.

Personally, I pay around $125/month with $500 collision deductible and $200 comprehensive deductible. Our other vehicle costs a few more dollars per month for the same coverage (I think it's around $130 per month). That's with no accidents or tickets for either of us, in a "safe" zip code, with the second car (new Challenger) listed as a weekend driver. I think it's a little on the high side, but I've shopped around and it seems about average for the area and coverage levels. Oh well.

Agreed.

But here is what I do.
I always prefer meeting an insurance agent in person.
My insurance is from Allstate.
When I recieved higher premium bill I went to see a Geico agent and showed him my allstate deal.
Geico guy tried to get my business and gave me a better deal (ofcourse chopping off few things).
Then I took Geico quote ( :-) ) and showed it to AllState agent.
At this point Allstate agent was more than willing to save me some money, he walked me through different points which he wouldn't do earlier.
Plus I have renter's insurance from Allstate.

This sounds a lot of work, but it took me around an hour and half.
