If you're going to Lake Como, spend a few extra hours (or day) and take the route up to Bormio and Stelvio Pass. Nothing like it. Also, be careful on the A7 before you hit Genoa. The twists come out of nowhere and those Italians do 90mph easy on them with their diesel vans. You'll definitely enjoy it!! Try to break away from the A8 near Sanremo and head down to the coast all the way to Monaco. The A8 toll however is pricey - expect to pay up to 25 Euro. Also get a loaded GPS so it'll pick up the speedtraps on the highways. Good Luck!
