Tire Pressure Monitoring System

OK, my car is 9 months old and the TPMS has failed, giving me a continuous tire pressure warning when the pressures in the tires are all OK. So, I will line up my car for its first trip back to the dealer for a warranty issue.

I have to say that even when working properly, that this system did not work nearly so well as the one on my 2008 Corvette, which gives me accurate tire pressures in each wheel at speed. And it does not seem to need all of the recalibration that the BMW system requires.

So I will have my initial impression of BMW dealer service. Maybe I can get BMW to fix the rear doors that are reluctant to shut while they are at it.

Very good possibility that the batteries in the sensors are out or low. Should be a simple fix if this is the case.

Don't E90s use ABS sensors to predict tire pressure changes? That was my understanding...

So so glad that Canadian cars (and the rest of the world) don't have these things. Makes switching wheels a breeze...

Canadian E90s generally have "FTM" (flat tire monitor) - and uses differential rolling rates of each wheel as measured by the ABS. Lower pressure and reduced effective circumference equates to higher revs and trips the low pressure alarm as either serious (yellow symbol) or critical (red symbol) pressure to one of the wheels.

Unless you have steel stems, it is highly unlikely you have the US-spec TPMS.

Regards
D.

Tire Pressure Monitor System

Yesterday, after multiple restarts, I could not get the alarm to clear. At the end of the day, with the tires still hot from my commute, I measured the pressures (not with a good guage though) Three wheels showed 38 psig hot and the fourth showed 34 psig hot. I put 4 psi in the last tire and called it a day.

Today there was no TPMS alarm all day long. what's going on?

Similar issue - it randomly comes on then clears itself. Manual reset has no effect. Tire pressures all check normal with a few different gauges.

Shut the TPMS down with the JB4 setting 4/6. Will see what happens.
