Emergency! Radiator fan spinning fast and overheating limp

Dropped my son off at RDU this morning and while heading home my car went over a bump in the road(really big bump where the overpass meets the hwy) my front is all scraped up. Well my car starts throwing overheating lights and loss of power. Stopped at a gas station and the fan is blowing really fast. Now I'm stuck. Any ideas of what could've happened? Thanks in advanced.

Since the water pump is electric it might have been damaged from the violent bump. Do a search on here for the venting procedure and see if you can hear your pump whirr like a washing machine. If you can't hear anything then it is the pump and you might as well change the thermostat too. Post an update whatever you find out to help the rest of us in the future. Thanks.

If no codes are being thrown use Chevron Techron fuel injector cleaner (concentrate). It solves rpm fluctuating upon cold start-up. Also, for most BMW problems start off by scanning your car with the Peake Research Tool. It contains the actual BMW codes. If you want to register a newly installed battery for free (just buy a $10 cable) and google/download BMWLogger

Had my mechanic look at it and he wanted to start with the thermostat because it would be least expensive. But i told him to go ahead and change out the electric water pump because i couldn't hear it cycle. All together the bill was $750 for water pump, thermostat, coolant and labor. 2 weeks in and the car seems fine.
