very worrying...and i saw on another thread that if you press the lock button twice it actually disables the sensors/ or "repeat" function of the alarm?!!!...

I think that a lot of owners are pressing the arm button twice in the mistaken belief that it 'deadlocks' their car as was the case in other marques. This maybe part of the reason why the alarm isn't sounding when the glass is broken to access the obd. |

Double clicking the close button on the fob also disables the anti-tilt sensor as well which makes it easier to nick wheels or put on a trailer.

It's a feature that I use when leaving the dogs in the car - and of course just by looking at the Red Sensor below the rear view mirror you can tell whether the deactivation has happened (what I don't know is how long this stays on for)?
What about total closure / folding wing mirrors etc - usually they require the key fob to be held down for 10's of seconds? |

And the engine starting thing - if you're worried that someone could slip into your car and start it in the 10 or 20 seconds that the immobiliser stays deactivated for, you should probably take your tinfoil hat off

Exactly. a double press disarms the internal sensors, a long press closes the windows. BMW decided that adults would be able to make their fingers perform the correct actions...

Yeah - exactly this. Once you take the key out, the immobiliser is only deactivated for about 20 seconds, same as with almost every car. You can't just start the car without a key whenever you want, that would be ridiculous...

worth noting that with the engine starting without the fob issue... if theres a door opened or closed in between removing the fob and pressing the button, the system doesnt allow it. So no ones going to get into your car and make off with it

So is the coder used to disable the alarm system first then put the key into the car then code it to the car
Because if you need to the key into the dashboard first then would the alarm sensor pick the persons movement |

If they stole my car i would follow them and break all their legs for the trade off for stealing my stuff. Anyone else would do this make sure u wear a mask and don't retrieve your vechicle after breaking their legs . Just get home n call the police And say your car is stolen

well ive never worried about additional security on a car before.. but since finding out about this stuff, i raided my cupboard and found a stoplock pro that my mate gave me a few months back. It now goes on the car each night!
