My 1D X review... updated as often as possible
It handles so much differently than any dSLR camera I've previously had (20D, 5D2, and 5D3). You can tell it's weather sealed by all the small details that are needed to let's say open the CF card compartment, or insert the battery, etc. Needless to say this thing is a monster... big and heavy. I'm sure people who manhandle 800mm lenses will not have a problem with this. Hey, at least it's good exercise, right?
The rubber feels better than the 5D2 and the 5D3. It fits the contours of my hands just as well as the smaller, grip-less 5D-series cameras, despite its larger size and heavier weight. I personally saw a noticeable difference in build quality between the 5D2 and the 5D3, where the latter was better. That being said, the 1D X makes the 5D3 feel like a toy... literally. It's solid all the way through. The buttons feel better. The toggles feel stronger. And not to belabor this point, but there is a marked improvement in weather sealing. It looks and feels like a tank that can easily take some hits. Now keep in mind, this is my first pro 1D-series camera, so I can't say right now how it compares to the 1D IV since I haven't played with it. One of these days I'll go down to my local pro camera shop and mess around with it a little to compare. Anyways, since I took some Tylenol PM a while back, my brain is shutting off. So, I guess I'll turn it on and play with it sometime tomorrow. Hopefully I get over these flu symptoms quickly, because I really want to go out and shoot!

That's cool. Did they have a display of the full-magnesium shell inside? At the last photokina, customer were interested in just buying that magnesium shell, since it looked like a work of art. Quote:
Over the past few months I have been strongly considering switching from photography to be just a hobby, to becoming a freelancer. I figured this camera couldn't hurt my case, especially since I would love to get into action photography (sports, etc). I'll definitely be reviewing it, but I'll also definitely be keeping this one.

Thanks, yeah me too... yesterday I spent prolly 75% of my day resting in bed, which sucked. Today I feel better, but I still have a pounding headache, sore throat, and feel weak. Hopefully this weekend I'll find a little bit of time and energy to go out and shoot with this thing.
I really want to try out the Big Stopper by the lake too.

Well, I took some photos of random things around my apartment. So far I'm impressed. I shot mainly between 800-25600 ISO, and the camera seemed to perform quite well. Here are some things I noticed...
1. The AF locks on faster than on the 5D2 or 5D3. I heard this might be lens specific, since the 1D X is higher voltage and can drive the AF on the lens faster. But the speed difference is noticeable, at least on the single lens I tested (135 mm f/2L). 2. When you press the shutter, it's loud. It's noticeably louder than the 5D2 or 5D3 (in normal mode). It sounds like you're firing off a gun (ok, maybe not that loud). The silent shutter feature is still loud. Maybe only slightly quieter than the normal mode on the 5D3. The 5D3's silent shutter is infinitely quieter than the silent shutter on the 1D X, and I kind of already miss that. 3. It's heavy. Granted I haven't been feeling well, and I'm much weaker than normal. But, I got tired after shooting with it for about 20 minutes. I guess it's time for me to hit the gym. 4. The viewfinder is very nice. Very much like the one on the 5D3, but it gives you more information and is nicely laid out (with the exposure metering, buffer size, etc on the right side). 5. I've set it to store RAW in CF slot 1, and JPEG L in CF slot 2. The buffer keeps showing me 16 even when I burst a little. That's pretty cool. And, yes, it does sound like a machine gun when you hold down the shutter button.

Here's a very high-ISO sample. This was shot as a jpg, not RAW, and it's straight out of the camera. Additionally, all the noise reduction options in the camera were turned off. All I did was resize it.
Canon 1D X, EF 135mm f/2L f/2, 1/80s, ISO 25600, Av, JPEG

^^^Handheld? At 1/80s for a non-IS 135mm, that's pretty good, especially considering the high ISO.

The exposure metering was way off in my viewfinder. It showed a different metering in the top LCD than the viewfinder.

Was watching the Olympics tonight and at one point I could hear what had to be a 1DX firing away in the background.

shooting at f/22 is like smearing vaseline all over your lens front element (instead of all over badger).

yeah, I know rodi... the issue was it was still too bright outside and I needed a slower shutter speed. If I had two of these, then I could've stacked them... but it was a long enough wait just to get one.
