Scrapes and scratches on my front bumper, darn driveways & trash cans
Hey guys, I have some scrapes on my front bumper. The first one was caused by pulling out of a steep driveway, the scrape sounded pretty horrific. The second scrape came from a big metal trash can, I had parked on the city streets of San Jose and in the morning it had made contact with my bumper.
What do you guys advise as the best / most cost friendly way of repairing my bumper? I'd actually prefer the cheapest method possible. Would a detail shop be able to help me out? The driveway scrape seems pretty deep, I wonder if I could get a respray on just that bottom end. Here's a picture of how she sits now! (Yes, I took it on her good side. Haha!) |

I've had similar problems. I just bought some touch-up paint from BMW (so the paint definitely matches) and it does wonders on small scrapes.

Yeah, touch-up paint should do it. Any decent shop will do, also.
It doesn't look so bad, though. You should see how the same type of scratches looks like on a black car. |

I would use a touch up paint. Just take your time and apply in thin layers over a period of time.
You can also do a partial respray of the lower part for around 100-150. Or you might just repaint the whole bumper for 400-500. |

If you are going to continue parking on city streets and drive around in-town, I'd get used to minor blemishes. With a white vehicle, touch-up paint is your friend.

Yeah, I've done this twice recently! I might shave off the hanging fibers first and then use a couple of coats of touch up paint. I'd mask off the unaffected paint.
It's a bumper, and a BMW with the sport suspension is awfully low for the horrible condition of many local US streets. I also have a bunch of rock chips on the bumper. If I spend $500 to get the bumper resprayed, I know it's going to happen again in a couple of weeks! The BMW touch-up paint is about $20. I'll try to save the respray for when I sell the car or at least for when the damage gets bad enough to annoy me $500 worth. If I can't see it without looking hard, it won't annoy me.

I think my best bet will probably be buying a touch-up paint kit from BMW directly, then bringing it to a professional for them to apply it. Thank you everyone for that piece of advice!
Ive consider getting a lip, but at the moment I am currently considering selling my 135i to move up to a 335i so thats a big reason as to why I'd prefer a cheap, simple solution to making the front end look new again. I rarely park on city streets, it just so happened that I ended up crashing at my friends dorm overnight. Thats why my baby spent the night parked on those lone city streets. |
