I had to use my navi tonight and i noticed that something was differant. Before when i got close to a turn i hear the nav lady say " in 1000 feet turn left" or something to that effect and then the small screen would go from the map to an arrow display that would have the street and the distance till the turn.

Tonight, i noticed that the screen would not change after the audible prompt. how would i go about getting this to work again. this is the first time ive used it since i had my update, i would hate to think that the update would have anything to do with this though.

I normally keep both the map and the arrow display on side-by-side all the time I am in navi mode, but I'll try.

After you start guidance, choose arrow display and make sure that the arrow+dot icon is not crossed. Then you can switch to other functions (including map display), and the arrow display will come back as appropriate. It should be that simple.

how is the map display? does it help at all with the arrows showing the way?

can you just use the map only with the same clear guidance as the arrows ans street names?

i have the arrows only nav and i find it totally comprehensive. what do you find that is an additional assistance with the map?

I really love having both on. The arrows display is great, but only shows you the next big turn and sometimes the following one - just local info in the direction of the car. For extra context, I like to use the North up map, at some intermediate scale, to show me the major highways and towns within medium distance. It is handy if you want to deviate from the navi computed route, for instance.

Of course, if you want minimum distractions, you may not want the map on. In my case, I turn the whole display off, and then the arrows display comes back on just when it needs to guide you.

I am sure different people have many different preferences.

Thanks, thought as much. I keep my arrows display on but occassionally I do turn the screen off. I do like how it comes on for important info/guidance then switches off again till next time.

i tried that tonight and still couldnt get it to behave as it did before.

i changed it to arrow display once guidance was started and then back to map direction of travel and it would stay with the map and change back to the arrow display. i did this with both the small window and the large window. it would either stay the entire time with the arrow or with the map....it wouldnt be the map and then only change to the arrow as i approached the turn and then revert to the map.

Sorry it didn't work.

As I pointed out, I never tried to do what you want. But the fact that my arrows display come back when needed even if after I turn the whole display off made me believe it would work.

Maybe the update changed it, but it would seem that this is not a REAL problem in the nav view because you have the other, bigger map. But this would be a problem if you had the same behavior if you are, say, in entertainment. If your main screen is entertainment and you set the assistance window to show you the map, what happens when you approach a turn? What happens after? Does it go back to showing the map?

thats the thing i never have my main screen as the map for navi so thats why i liked having the assistance window change from map display to arrow display as i approach the turn and then back to map display after the turn...it doenst do that anymore, just stays as the map or as the arrow...

of course i could work around it, but it was nice to have it bahave in that manner.

So if you are in navi mode, what do you have the main screen showing you?

Are you saying that you have this problem even if you are in the entertainment screen?

when im using the navigation i only have the assitance window as the map. my main screen is usually on entertainment.

with this setup, before the assistance wondow would go back and forth between map display and arrow display witout me having to do change anything. now it will only stay as the map or as the arrow.

like i said i could work around this by having the main screen be the map and have the assistance window be the arrow, but i wouldnt be able to play with entertinment or if im on a call....

Ok, thanks for finally clearing this up. Now that offically sucks! Anyone with the update has the same problem? I have an appointment to have the update done next week and I don't want this "upgrade".

haha, yeah it blows. sorry it took so long to get my point across...some things are just easier to show and a little more of a hassle to explain...
