Retrofit Hybrid Kit?

Saw this online and was kind of dumbfounded.
Retrofitting a Hybrid kit... What are everyone's thoughts on this?

Didn't care to watch the video...

Buy a hybrid if you want one. BMW has options

I did watch the whole video

The idea is pretty good! But it is far from being ready-to-use...

Yea, but when it is ready it does seem very probably. It's pretty much using kinetic energy to transform into mechanical energy. Seems logical enough.

it is from a Tennessee University, the hub of technology inventions in the US... that should tell you it all.

So how do you stop, no brakes they are gone, and the motor can not completely stop the car.

I would prefer to have an all electric car

This is kind of a patch job where you still have to use gas.
It doesn't have and electric only mode as described.
He did say it was built around the brakes but then wouldn't there
be heating problems with the brakes .
He did not mention regenerative brake charging.
I think a nat gas conversion makes more sense than this.

Your complete brake components are still there. It seems like it's a addition on top of the brakes.

I could use this for the front wheels for my M3. I think I will get it fitted tomorrow so I can take corners faster!

While you are ahead, take off the airbags in your car. The weight savings will increase HP by 1 zillion.

Has been already done. I also removed my weighted shift knob for further weight saving so now it only has the stick

Seems like a plausible retrofit to a FWD daily driver city vehicle. (200 more ft# in a MINI, anyone?)

Casual googling reveals a target price of $3K for the system. At $4.50 a gallon for premium in LA, that's equivalent to ~700 gallons of gas, or 40 tankfulls, or a year of driving. Conclusion: it pays foritself in savings over two years, if it really does double your mileage as per the claim. Plus you get the tax benefits and other perks - carpool lane access, etc. That's a win, if they hit the price point & performance numbers.

This just gave me another idea!

I'm going to buy a "hybrid" badge and put it on the back of my car.

Then I'm going to park in the "hybrid vehicle parking only" section every time I go to Logan Airport.

When someone gives me grief I'm going to say "I have a hybrid retrofit kit on this car"

Instant WIN!

My buddy and I actually talked about this back in 08 and spoke to a patent attorney about putting something together. I'd love to see this on the road.
