Thumbs down so pissed at my girl

So yesterday we (my girlfriend and I) are loading up the trunk of the car to drive back home from the mountains when I see her hit the corner rear bumper with a smal suitcase. I almost freak. Holding back I inspect the spot and sure enough there is a 2 inch long scratch. I am like OK guess I can buff that out.....trying to keep myself calm. Then we drive back and get home 3 hours later. I open the trunk to notice that her damn laundry detergant had spilled all throughout the trunk. I could have slaped her. (but thats not my way) I am sooo pissed. Now there is this huge blue stain in the trunk carpet. Anyone have any advice?
Thanks guys

Look into replacing the carpet and relax.

Lifes too short to get upset about spending a little money to fix accidental damage.

Check with your BMW dealer, I think BMW sell replaceble parts for interior liner for trunk if you can not remove the stain. The tool you will need is the plug removal. Good luck.

Just get some warm water and scrub at it a little bit in a circular motion to lather up the detergent. Then wipe the lather with a dry towel. Repeat this process and little by little the detergent will come out. It just might take a while but should work. Use a brush with medium to hard bristles, the ones that are made for carpet scrubbing.

Good luck, and at least your car should smell clean.

After you do this, repeat process for the car as well.

Unhappy

This is the kind of stuff that has the potential of sending me over the top! But it can be fixed. At least it wasn't something like milk or orange juice!

Rent a carpet cleaner, or borrow a Bissel. the ones that put water in and suck it out. That will solve that issue, my fiance' (GF) at the time did the same thing in her car, we used the bissel. issue solved. Just need to make sure it dries, so find a sunny spot and let the trunk air out until dry, or it will get moldy

Its detergent, its made for cleaning stuff. It'll get really soapy probably, but with enough water it should be easy to get out.

As for the scratch, good luck. Definately make her pay(not with money).

I feel for ya.........I'd be waaaay pissed.

I have a portable carpet shampoo machine (that we use when the cat pukes), which I've been known to use on automobile carpet. I would think that laundry detergent would clean up fairly well using one of these. They run about $79 or so if you don't have one.......

Sounds like maybe it's time for her to be in the trunk.

It was an accident

Don't worry about it; it's not as if she intentionally did it. I agree, she should have been more careful, but the carpet stain is removable and as you said, you can buff out the bumper scratch.

Not worth a fight with your girlfriend. Pick your battles: if she wants to drive your car and does not know how to handle a stick, thus grinding your transmission, THEN get pissed

Btw, I'm based in Chapel Hill. What do you do in Durham?

Worse things could have spilled, I'd be gald it was soap, at least it smells good compared to spilling THAI food in your trunk!!

Off topic, to my wife and most people(read, not here), a car is just a car, as shit happens. I am trying to be more like that, because in the end, it is just as nice driving a new BMW with a few marks on it compared to not driving one!!

I'm not sure if you know or not, but the flat floor of the trunk is removable, just lift it up like you are going to place something in the compartment underneath and then lift up towards the back (where the trunk floor meets the area near the rear seat), the entire floor removes! You can remove it and then maybe hose it off to get all of the soap out. Good luck.

Yeah, and you could just keep going over it with a wet/dry vac until it's all out. That shouldn't be a big problem.

About the scratch, though...I don't know. Just make sure whoever you take it to knows what they're doing. A couple of our cars (all black) had scratches on them and we had them fixed, but the parts that were fixed were cloudy and the swirl marks were terrible.
