battery help

I have a 2007/02 328xi and after parking the car in the garage for a couple weeks without driving it the car won't start, it clicks but doesn't crank. I'm thinking the battery's dead. Indicator window is black on the 90Ah 720 CCA battery. Voltage measured was only 7.8V. I tried jump starting it, drive it for 20 minutes, came back and able to turn off and start up right away but won't start again the next morning. Is it worth trying to charge it with some trickle charger or should I go right into the battery replacement, registration/coding route?

What adds to more complication is that I read the available softwares out there weren't able to perform the register function. Some say that it's not needed for this production month or older. My dealer isn't answering my question either.

Charge it up with a battery tender and then load test it. But an '07 is just about there, the battery lasts 6 years. So you change it 6 mos. early before the winter, you don't really lose anything.

If you decide to get a new battery, there is free software available to register the battery (you would need an $8 cable, the software vendor has links to find one)
http://**************.com/products
According to this vendor, if you replace the battery with one that has same specs, you only need to register. Otherwise you would need to also program to new specs.
I've tried the software, but mainly for reading codes.
Here's a thread on the forum discussing the software.
