Can my E90 reboot itself?

I’m new here and I like to thank all of you for all the valuable information I’ve got over the last 6 weeks or so.
I got a software update and door locks activated yesterday on my Aug-05 production 325i. I was told there was no option to activate key memory even with the latest software. I picked up my car just before closing and drove home. The automatic door locks worked just fine. Shortly after that I discovered that all my settings were gone (something I expected), none of steering wheel controls worked anymore, computer could not be reset, bluetooth was not working, clock showed constantly 11:49, radio and all other illuminations was always on even with the key in my pocket.
At home my wife suggested making a list of all malefactions. This seemed a good idea to me and after about half an hour I went downstairs to the garage. Back lids were still on. I opened the car with the second key and vuala.... seat was adjusting to my wife settings. Beside that I did not notice anything different since I’d left the car earlier.
Very late at night I had to pick somebody up from the train station. I was very surprise to see everything working flawlessly as it supposed to work. Frankly I could not find anything wrong with the car (beside the fact the oil service changed to 08/2007 and 15,000.)
Can someone tell me what happened.

By the way it’s my first BMW and I enjoy it very much.

Yes disconnect the negative battery terminal in the trunk and leave it off for 6 min. then put it back and Yippieee Windows is now restarting.

Remember to leave the driver door open.

hi and welcome,

yes, as you observed 1st hand the computer does reset itself after about 15 mins.

take a look at the small troubleshooting section in the middle of the manual (i think its somewhere there) and there is that option listed.

why it gets confused in the first place is anyones guess - it is a computer.

obviously keep an eye on it and if the craziness persists, see your service department. hopefully its a one off phenomenon.

all the best with your new car.

Did you get the blue screen of death? I hate when that happens. You can try "ctrl alt delete". Push the BMW assist button and say those words. The car will reboot.

Sometimes you can turn the engine off and on and it'll fix the problems. If that doesn't work, just disconnect the negative battery for a few seconds. Computers will always malfunction once in a while.
