Can the dealer screw up the oil cooler install?
I'm taking my car in for the oil cooler retrofit and having second thoughts. My car has been flawless and the highest temp I've been able to get was 260 and that was beating it just to see where it would go.I only am getting the install because I got caught up in the "Limp Mode" frenzy early on.Would you cancel, maybe they'll screw something else up.Thoughts anyone?

I would vote to go ahead and have it done. The cooler the better as far as your engine is concerned. I think this outweighs potential issues that MAY result from the retrofit.

My temp has never exceeded 250 degrees, so I am not too anxious to have the retrofit. As with surgery, there is always the possibility of something going wrong.

Yes the dealer can screw it up but I wouldn't worry about it. Here's how I would decide: (1) If you lease, don't track your car and the highest you've seen is 260 then I would wait. If it starts overheating you can always have it done. (2) If you lease and intend to participate in HPDEs then I would get the retrofit. (3) If you own get the retrofit even if you don't intend to track it. The cooler will be better for resale and the longevity of your engine.

either way your temp. will stay about the same. I'd get it for resale purposes and also for that peace of mind- you can track it or whatever and not have to worry about it. Also, it may save you the embarrassment if the car goes into limp mode.

Dude, i love your signature... same happened to me sold the e46 M3 to get the fat overpowered overweight hungry e60 M5 then went back to a 997S and now in 335xi. Have to say, should have stuck with the M3, best car i have ever owned, screamer of an engine and loved the handling... |

Am I right that Sedans don't qualify for the retrofit?
OP, I'd say don't do it unless you're consistently getting hot
