Why is my MPG so low?
I am looking at other threads and i see that lowest people are getting are 16 mpg. I am averaging at most 14.3 and my car has almost 1600 miles on it. I live in the city so it's stop and go traffic and i would say i do semi-spirited driving.

I asked the same question. Outcome was that most people are really getting over 17mpg. I am wondering myself if I should take the car in to the dealership to have it checked.

Well, you basically answered your own question.
Your car only has 1,600 miles on it. As it breaks in, the MPG will increase. Also, city driving will eat up gas... spirited city driving will really eat up gas. Do you crank your AC? My average dropped from about 21-23 to 17-19 when I moved to Phoenix.

Before I get in the car I tell myself over and over, that I will pretend I'm going to the dentist for a root canal and drive nice and slow. But then as soon as I hit the start button its off to the races! I need therapy!!

It will get better once you aren't running the A/C all the time, too.

If the vehicle is capable of getting 30 mpg when allowed to cruise on the highway, it's fine and performing normally. There's no need to ask, "why am I getting 0 mpg when completely stopped and idling at a red light?" Everytime you stop at a light, you are getting 0. The more lights you stop at, the more weight the 0 carries, thus lowering the overall avg. When cruising at 72 mph on the highway the vehicle is demonstrating what it can do towards the upper boundary of mpg. |

Well, there you go. Your driving conditions and habits are to blame, not the car.

You pushing too hard on the low fuel economy lever - it's the one to the right of the brake, push it less hard and you will get better economy, or push it really hard and have some fun and ignore the silly milage readout!!!!!!!
Toyota makes a nice car called the Prius if you want something slow and economical - doubt that is why you bought a 335! |

When I'm pushing my car, I can go through 1/2 a tank in 20 minutes, or I can drive @ 73 @ 2300 RPM (optimal) and make the tank last 3 weeks.
its all in your driving style.

City mileage for me is about the same as my M3 was viz. 16mpg. On a recent roadtrip I averaged 23 mpg on the highway doing spirited driving, and 31 mpg on the return trip which was sedate driving. I aways have AC turned on.

On my 800-mile ED trip, I did a fair amount of city/slow mountain driving, a lot of 80-100mph highway cruising, and maybe 25 minutes of 120+mph highway cruising. Average consumption (according to the computer, since I never filled up) was 24mpg. Not bad for a green engine, constant AC usage, and mixed driving. (Also of note is that it read 24.9mpg until I hit the German border and took it up to 120+mph whenever I could. Cruising at 4k RPM eats gas!)
