E92 True Weight
I went to get my car corner balanced today. I have the exact corner weights in my car, but the car weighed 356x. 3/4 tank of gas, w/o me in it. Options are Navi, Step, Heated Seats, Paddles. I don't know how someone weighed 336x. I think their scale might be off, since it's a truck stop and all. I don't see Navi or Step weighing 200 lbs.
FWIW, this was at West End Alignment. IMO, the premier alignment/corner balance shop in Southern California.

That was me who weighed my E92 a month or so ago and got 3360.
It was not a truck stop, but rather a California Certified load scale. Car and Driver got 3366. I would assume also on a certified scale. These weights pretty much line up perfectly to what BMW says the weight of the car is. They're listed weights include a 150 pound driver, 33 pounds cargo and 90% full of fuel. If you subtract the 150 pound driver, the 33 or so pounds cargo and 15+ pounds gas (as BMW weighs it with 90% fuel and I and probably C&D did it was a full tank). 3582-150-33-15= 3384 lbs. That's only 24 pounds more than what the California Certified Public scale I went to said and 18 pounds more than C&D's scale said. Those 20 or so pounds difference from what BMW says can easily be explained by options on the car. I'm guessing BMW lists the weight of the loaded car (with NAV and cold weather package, etc which I and C&D's car probably did not have). Mine has sport, premium, Sirius, CA, Step. I'd say the "premier" West End Alignment shop you went to needs a new, more accurate scale. As it stands the "true weight" of the E92 "wet" (full of fuel, oil, etc) is more like 3340-3395 depending on options, according to BMW themselves, and verified by myself and C&D. |

The difference between a 35xx lbs car and a 33xx lbs car is not that noticeable.
now the difference between a 25xx lbs car and a 23xx lbs car is whole another world... so i don't worry too much about it, still hauls ass

The weight that BMW lists, which is 3600 pounds, is UNLADEN weight, meaning no passenger, and I believe 5 gallons of gas in tank.

BMW's "unladen" weight, as it specifies on their technical data is with a 68 kg driver (150 lbs), 33 lbs of cargo, and 90% full fuel tank. We are also talking about the E92 coupe, which is a bit lighter than the sedan you linked. |

Hmmm, I notice 200 pounds very easily in the car.

I highly doubt West End Alignment's scale is off. They are very reputable.

200 lbs is pretty darn significant. It's like having a heavy passenger with you.
Auto vs. Manual tranny is about 100 lbs usually. i dont know where the other 100 could come from. it's not a double clutch setup so i cant imagine it being more than 100 lbs over manual |

But the thing is, Driver72 has step as well.
Driver72, only way to test this is if you go to a different place to weigh your car and I do as well. If you know how corner balancing works, it's highly unlikely for all 4 scales to be off. Since there's a scale below each and every single wheel. If the car was corner balanced wrong, I'm sure the hundreds of people who get their track cars corner balanced there would notice.

I'd say since, as I posted in my first response, that both the CA Scale I went to and the scale C&D went to were within 6 pounds of each other, plus doing the math that BMW uses, puts BMW's own numbers, the scale I went to, and the scale C & D went too all within 25 pounds of each other, that it's pretty clear that West End Alignments scales, though probably accurate with each others, is not accurate to what the weight truly is. (Meaning, as long as all 4 of their scales show that 1000 pounds is actually 1025 pounds, it's all relative, but the fact would still remain, that their scales are off by 25 pounds each. BTW, the difference in weight between the step and manual is only like 20 pounds. I don't personally see how West End's scales could be correct. How could your car weigh 3560 pounds with no driver, no cargo and 75% full tank, when BMW themselves tell you that the car weighs 3582 (22 pounds more) when it HAS a 150 lbs driver, 33 pounds of cargo, and more fuel? |

Maybe 335i is that heavy afterall. The Stepronic is only a whopping 11lbs heavier than manual. I so wish the Car & Driver's 3366lb is no fluke. 150~200lbs is a big deal, enough to makes significant amount of difference, as much of torque as my E92+SSTT has, my car still feels dog slow to me sometimes, due to the heavyweight. I would take 500lbs off over 50hp gain. Is it 3366lb or 3584lbs, look like car and driver are contradicting themselves, check out the listed curb weight here: http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...st+page-5.html |

I believe CD's listed weight in the 2007 Lightning Lap was an error. Previously they had tested a 335 sedan and it came in at 3616 pounds. The 328 e90 in their January 2008 test weighed 3380.
Thanks, Mike. |

There may be a coupe vs sedan diff as well. I gotta find a weight station soon.
